Job Description

As a key member of Sacred Heart School’s leadership team, the Assistant Principal supports the Principal in the day-to-day operations of the school, helping to ensure that instruction and student behavior are consistent with the mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the school. The Assistant Principal plays a vital role in instructional leadership, student discipline, and faith formation.

Essential Functions

Instructional Leadership

  • Support curriculum development and alignment with diocesan standards and Catholic educational philosophy.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
  • Assist in coordinating professional development opportunities for faculty.
  • Analyze student assessment data to help inform instructional decisions.

Faith and Catholic Identity

  • Foster a school culture rooted in Gospel values and Catholic tradition.
  • Assist in planning liturgical celebrations, prayer services, and school Masses.
  • Support the integration of faith across all subject areas.
  • Collaborate with the parish and pastor to strengthen the school–parish relationship.

Student Life and Discipline

  • Serve as the primary first point of contact for student behavioral concerns.
  • Implement and uphold the school’s code of conduct consistently and compassionately.
  • Promote a safe, welcoming school environment that fosters a strong sense of belonging.
  • Engage in professional and community activities as an official representative of the school.

Faculty and Staff Support

  • Assist with new teacher onboarding and mentoring.
  • Support staff performance evaluations in collaboration with the Principal.
  • Mediate conflicts and foster a collaborative faculty and staff culture.
  • Promote staff well-being and morale.

Student Services

  • Participate as an active member of the Student Advocacy Team.
  • Monitor student attendance and address chronic absenteeism.
  • Support student transition planning.

Safety and Compliance

  • Help ensure compliance with diocesan policies, state regulations, and VIRTUS environment requirements.
  • Assist in coordinating emergency drills and safety protocols.
  • Serve as a member of the school’s emergency response team.
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure confidentiality.

Position Qualifications

  • Must be a Practicing Catholic with a demonstrated commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in educational administration, supervision, curriculum development, or education.
  • Appropriate MSDE certification.
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with educational technology, including Google Workspace (GSuite), Google Classroom, and school management systems.
  • Prior school administration experience preferred.
