Job Description

St. Mary’s School, located in Annapolis, Maryland, is seeking a qualified full-time Assistant Principal for Academics for the 2026–2027 school year. The Assistant Principal for Academics (APA) is responsible for collaborating with the Principal in the overall implementation of the school’s academic programs. The APA oversees the implementation of the AOB curriculum, ensuring alignment with educational standards and the desired outcomes of the Archdiocesan curriculum.

The APA maintains and reviews student academic records and ensures that effective communication and partnerships are fostered with parents and students regarding academic progress and support. The APA works directly with faculty to promote and support exceptional instructional practices. The APA communicates with the Principal and teachers on all matters, especially those regarding academic policies, teacher supervision, and parental concerns.

Essential Functions

  • Organize, maintain, and monitor a sequential curriculum program consistent with the educational philosophy of the school.
  • Assist with the review of lesson plans and learning management systems, and provide feedback and support as needed for probationary teachers and others as requested.
  • Assist with formal and informal observations of classroom and special area teachers.
  • Organize and implement orientations for new teachers and instructional assistants.
  • Maintain a mentoring program for new and probationary teachers.
  • Develop teacher evaluation goals in collaboration with the Principal.
  • Demonstrate, model, and coach faculty in developing activities and strategies for the progressive improvement of instruction.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and design monthly professional development sessions in partnership with professional growth organization trainers.
  • Coordinate and regularly attend grade-level and departmental planning meetings.
  • Involve relevant faculty and oversee the process of textbook and learning resource selection.
  • Facilitate professional growth through catechist training experiences as outlined by AoB guidelines.
  • Provide relevant curriculum updates to faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate end-of-year math placement testing with the Director of Admissions, Academic Advisor, and associated teaching teams.
  • Serve as the Title I, II, and IV liaison and site supervisor.
  • Coordinate the grant process for funding from Anne Arundel County Public Schools and MSDE.
  • Collaborate with the Principal on Extended Classroom Experiences.
  • Coordinate state family surveys and textbook purchases as required by the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
  • Order all instructional materials, including textbooks, consumables, and teacher support materials; verify orders upon delivery and distribute materials to teachers.
  • Attend all faculty meetings, as well as relevant evening and weekend school events for Grades PK–8.
  • Work with the Principal on the annual school budget, including coding and payment of bills.
  • Oversee daily school operations in collaboration with the APS in the absence of the Principal.
  • Assume additional duties, on a temporary or permanent basis, as requested by the Principal.

Position Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic with a demonstrated commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in educational administration, supervision, curriculum development, or education.
  • Appropriate MSDE Certification.
  • A minimum of three to five years of teaching experience in Catholic schools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be comfortable with technology including GSuite, Google Classroom, and school management programs such as Power School.
  • Prior experience in school administration preferred.

Range: $75,000 - $90,000, Annualized
