Compensation: $67,000 – $80,000 annual salary (DOE) + bonus opportunities

About the Role
Academies of Math and Science is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Assistant Principal for Middle School Grades (5–8) to join the leadership team at our new AMS Power Campus in Mesa
This leader will work closely with the Campus Principal and network leadership to help build and sustain a strong middle school program that prepares scholars for high school success, college pathways, and future leadership opportunities.
The Assistant Principal will support instructional excellence, school culture, student discipline systems, and teacher development while ensuring a safe, structured, and academically rigorous learning environment.
The ideal candidate is a strong instructional leader with experience supporting middle school scholars and coaching teachers in a departmentalized academic setting.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
Conduct classroom walkthroughs and formal evaluations using AMS instructional frameworks.
Provide targeted coaching and actionable feedback to teachers to strengthen instructional practices and student engagement.
Support professional development, PLCs, and instructional planning aligned with AMS curriculum and Arizona state standards.
Analyze student achievement data to monitor scholar progress and implement targeted academic interventions.
Collaborate with the principal and instructional leadership team to ensure strong implementation of departmentalized curriculum across core subject areas.
School Culture & Operations
Support the development and implementation of clear school-wide behavior expectations and discipline systems.
Promote a positive and structured learning environment that supports adolescent development and scholar accountability.
Build positive relationships with scholars, families, and staff to foster strong school engagement.
Assist with campus operations including supervision, scheduling, safety drills, and school-wide events.
Support systems that promote scholar leadership, responsibility, and character development.
Talent & Team Support
Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and development of instructional staff.
Mentor teachers and support new staff members in implementing AMS instructional practices.
Collaborate with instructional coaches and department leaders to strengthen teaching and learning.
Model professionalism, accountability, and a student-centered leadership approach.
Support staff development and retention through ongoing coaching and feedback.
Qualifications & Competencies (Required)
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably in grades 5–8
Prior leadership or teacher leadership experience such as:
Grade-level lead
Department chair
Mentor teacher
Instructional coach
Dean of students
Assistant principal internship
Strong ability to coach adults and improve instructional practices in a middle school environment
Experience analyzing student achievement data to drive academic decision-making and interventions
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse and underserved student communities
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership
Arizona Administrator or Principal certification (or ability to obtain)
Bilingual Spanish/English
Experience working in a Title I or charter school environment
Experience supporting middle school STEM or advanced academic programs
