The Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for all associated lifeguard duties including the prevention of drowning, injury and other injuries from occurring. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. Additionally, the Pool Manager is responsible for basic pool maintenance, providing on-site supervision and direction to other aquatics staff, taking a lead role when emergency or service-related situations arise, and leading portions of staff trainings.

Experience, Education, and Skills:

  • Minimum Requirements:
    One (1) or more years of experience in Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instruction.

  • Current certifications in: American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,

AND

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instruction

  • Ability to effectively respond to emergency situations and perform lifesaving procedures.

  • Service and customer focused attitude

  • Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community

Essential Functions:

  • Provides supervision and direction to lifeguards and other aquatics staff and serves as manager on duty in the absence of full-time aquatics staff.

  • Recognizes and responds effectively to emergency situations and performs lifesaving procedures.

  • Actively scans and monitors the pool area at all times while on duty.

  • Communicates and enforces all pool rules and policies.

  • Maintains a positive rapport with the public by providing high-quality customer service, answering questions, and communicating in a professional manner.

  • Inspects facilities for cleanliness and assists with routine maintenance of the pool, deck, and locker rooms.

  • Completes administrative duties as directed, including attendance records, chemical logs, incident reports, participant certificates, and other necessary paperwork.

  • Attends and participates in regular in-service trainings and helps lead portions of meetings and training sessions as directed by the Recreation Coordinator.

  • Serves as a Guest Services Representative when directed by the Recreation Coordinator.

  • Tests and records water chemistry levels and administers pool chemicals as directed by the Aquatics Coordinator.

  • Ensures the facility is secure at closing by completing all assigned closing duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Travel:

  • Category A-Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings, trainings, or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.

Work Environment:

  • Frequent interruptions and heavy public contact.

  • Required to work variable hours including some mornings, afternoons, early evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors, with outdoor work taking place when the outdoor pools are in operation.

  • May be exposed to loud noises, bodily fluids, cleaning solutions, dust, and fumes.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision to perform physical activities, read computer screens and keyboards, as well as reference books and other written documents.

  • Strength and stamina to stand, sit, walk, stretch, lift, bend, and carry up to 50 lbs.
