Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Faculty

The Georgetown University School of Nursing seeks a full-time educator track faculty (non-tenure) member to provide expert teaching and professional role modeling in our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs. Georgetown currently offers two DNP pathways. The Clinical BSN to DNP pathway includes four specialization areas – Adult Gerontology/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Nurse-Midwifery/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (NM/WHNP) and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP)]. There is also a post-master’s Executive DNP pathway that is focused on education, health systems leadership, and policy. Coursework is completed in a hybrid format, with on-site executive or clinical intensives conducted in Washington, DC.

Academic rank will be offered commensurate with education and experience. This faculty position is held on the educator track at Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank with scholarship, teaching and service expectations with the following time commitments over a 12-month academic year:

Teaching (80% - 18 credits) DNP Program & area of expertise

Service (10%) School, university, Executive leadership positions with external professional organizations

Scholarship (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

• Terminal degree, preferably Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in nursing or related subject
• Hold a master’s degree in nursing if terminal degree is not in nursing
• Hold or be eligible for RN and/or APRN (if applicable) licensure in the District of Columbia (DC), and in home state if not a resident in Washington, DC*.
• The position is hybrid, requiring periodic on-site presence
• Candidate must reside in an eligible direct hire state (insert link to direct hire document)
• Hold current certification in specialty area (e.g., executive leadership, APRN)
• Experience in an advanced nursing role (e.g., APRN, nurse executive, etc.)
• Experience in the development, teaching and administration of DNP educational courses/programs

Preferred qualifications

• Be eligible for rank at Assistant, or preferably, Associate/Full professor standing at Georgetown University
• Demonstrate an active, incremental record of scholarship
• Expertise in the following areas is preferred:
  • Statistics and data analysis
  • Healthcare finance
  • DNP project methodology and quality improvement
  • Leadership and policy expertise aligned with future pathways
• Demonstrated experience teaching in a hybrid and/or distance-based education format
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills

Position related responsibilities include

Teaching (up to 80%)

• Teaches in area of expertise as needed
• Participates in curriculum and course development
• Develops and implements innovative teaching strategies

• Course coordination, teaching, and evaluation of course outcomes
• Serve as DNP project mentor for students with aligned areas of interest
• Participation in research, scholarly, and service activities
• Participation in program meetings and departmental, school, and university committees is required
• Continuation in active practice as defined by AACN is preferred

Scholarship & Service (10-20%)

• Engagement in scholarly activities such as research, publications and grant writing.
• Participating in program, school, university, and other committees as required.
• Participating in all relevant program and BSON student events as required.
• Didactic instruction within areas of expertise (including, entry level, graduate-level core, and specialty courses) across multiple teaching modalities.
• Participation in objective clinical intensives (OCI) in-person on-campus and virtually

Additional responsibilities

• Faculty are expected to teach across a range of pathways (direct entry, undergraduate, graduate) and modalities to meet the needs of the school.

• Attendance at on-campus events consistent with the Faculty Handbook Faculty Roles and Responsibilities (e.g., commencement, school wide events, periodic curriculum and programming meetings)
• Faculty advising for DNP students
• Participation in faculty governance, including faculty and operations meetings
• On-going professional development and participation in curricular revision and implementation, with a focus on advancing health equity and addressing racism with the program content
• Participate in scholarship and service activities and maintain current clinical practice as it relates to state law for practitioners.
• Collaboration with faculty and staff colleagues, as well as leadership to ensure outstanding program graduates and effective planning and implementation of future initiatives.
• Enhancement of the program’s reputation and visibility through engagement in relevant professional activities.

The Georgetown University Berkley School of Nursing is situated in the Georgetown University Medical Center. Outstanding resources support faculty research, collaboration, and teaching, and include the O’Neill Family Foundation Clinical Simulation Center, the Office of Research Support and Administration, and the Discovery Center, which is a teaching and research laboratory.

The projected salary pay range for this position is $115,000 – $140,000, which represents the full range of anticipated compensation for this position. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
