The University of Virginia’s Departments of East Asian Languages, Literatures & Cultures (EALLC) and of Media Studies (MDST) invite scholars of Korean film, screen, and/or popular culture to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor position. The position requires teaching two courses per semester in the fall and spring semesters and is expected to begin August 10, 2027. This is a joint appointment between the EALLC and MDST departments, and candidates should be comfortable working both in a languages and cultures department and in a disciplinary department. The ideal candidate will be prepared to teach an introductory course on Korean culture (broadly defined), a survey course on Korean film / television / popular culture, and advanced seminars at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in areas of the scholar's research expertise. The successful candidate will play a key role in building a Korean major in EALLC with the support of colleagues and contribute to the Film Studies concentration in MDST. We are a dynamic, supportive community of scholars invested in interdisciplinarity, and we look forward to welcoming a colleague with a strong or promising record of publication commensurate with career stage, and an innovative research program that speaks to the latest currents in both the Korean Studies and Media Studies fields.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the position start date and possess native or near-native Korean language abilities.
