Responsibilities

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for Community Health System (CHS) ensures the highest standards of evidence-based patient care while fostering a positive working environment for nursing staff. This position manages unit operations and supports the development of the nursing staff. By combining advanced clinical expertise and leadership skills, the Assistant Nurse Manager provides essential administrative and clinical support to Nurse Managers and unit staff, contributing significantly to delivering high-quality nursing services, excellence in nursing practice, and safe patient outcomes.

Accountabilities

1. Hire, supervise, and assist in training and mentoring nursing staff while ensuring adherence to departmental goals and operational standards.2. Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and recommend corrective actions; mentor and coach staff to implement professional development plans and enhance clinical skills.3. Facilitate communication and coordination among unit staff and other departments to ensure continuity of patient care. Oversee patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring accurate and pertinent information is transferred between shifts.4. Ensures nursing documents patient progress, initiates nursing care plans, and supervises the delivery of patient care to adhere to best practices, promote excellent patient outcomes and regulatory standards (e.g., Title 22, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, The Joint Commission, etc.).5. Develop and implement unit policies and procedures to enhance healthcare delivery.6. Prepare staff schedules and assignments to ensure adequate coverage and meet patient acuity and regulatory standards.7. Support budget management by optimal use of nursing resources and balancing quality of care with cost efficiency.8. Participate in quality improvement projects and research initiatives.9. In collaboration with the nurse manager, address operational issues affecting patient care delivery and facilitate training programs for compliance with clinical standards and new technologies.10. Serve as a liaison between the Nurse Manager and staff, promoting open communication, escalation, and collaboration with other departments (e.g., pharmacy, radiology) to resolve operational issues.11. Engage in department and hospital committees to represent nursing staff, provide clinical consultation and support, and conduct rounding on patients and families to ensure the quality of services, experience, and service recovery.12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education• High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required• For NICU and Pediatrics only:o Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN or MSN) required• Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) OR other healthcare related Bachelor’s Degree preferred Experience• Strong clinical experience in nursing; previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred Licenses and Certifications • RN - Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work within the state of California required• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required• For specific departments only:o ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required• For Women & Children's only:o NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program required• For NICU only:o NICRNC - Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse requiredo NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 90 days of hire or transfer into position• For Pediatrics only:o PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support Certification required• NATIONAL - National Certification related to specialty and applicable to role preferred
