Title: Assistant, Minor League Medical Coordinator

Department: Minor League Medical

Status: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $70,000- $80,000/year*

Reports to: Director, Player Health

*Compensation rates vary based on job-related factors, including experience, job skills, education, and training.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Communication:

  • Update medical staff on all details of player injury / illnesses.
  • Assist with coordinating player and staff appointments (Imaging, physician).
  • Inform Head Minor League Medical Coordinator and Medical Director of injury during daily activities that they may not be aware of; this allows communication during games with both Managers and Front Office.
  • Communication with Minor League SM&P staff throughout season to maintain and nurture relationships.
  • Communicate with Director of Player Health, Head Medical Coordinator & VP, Player Performance regarding Major League & 40-man rehabs.
  • Monitor daily treatment reports from all affiliate medical staff, update Head Coordinator and Director as needed.
  • Monitor EMR and internal exercise/measurement programs to identify potential injury trends.
  • Assist with distributing information to Medical Staff pertaining to new medical information, OSHA regulations, review of HIPAA regulations, organizational policies, drug testing information, etc.

Player Care: Treatment, Testing, Evaluation, Monitoring. Return to Performance

  • Assist, evaluate & treat players’ movements / postures statically & dynamically.
  • Assist Head Medical Coordinator and Physical Therapist in the development, monitoring and management of player rehabilitation programs.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring off-season rehab and follow up plans.
  • Assist post-operative protocols alongside SM&P staff.
  • Work closely with SM&P staff to assist and develop player testing protocols as we build individual player profiles to identify potential injury risk, return-to-performance protocols, and identify areas of potential player development.
  • Create & implement corrective exercise & preparation programs for players for both prevention & rehabilitative purposes based on previous injury history, current injury, postural & strength assessments.

Leadership

  • Provide leadership in conjunction with MLB Sports Medicine & Performance staff to entire organizational SM & P staff.
  • Travel to affiliates to monitor player care, treatment plans, supplies, facility organization, serviceability of equipment and medical staff performance.
  • Monitor EMR records for quality and accuracy. (Weekly/monthly basis?)
  • Communicate with Head Medical Coordinator on affiliate status.
  • Assist with Minor League staff evaluations.
  • Assist in interviewing and evaluating potential candidates for minor league athletic training positions.

Administration and Supply

  • Maintain daily treatment notes, as well as up-to-date medical files in AHMS.
  • Assist with organizing physical (pre-season & end of season) documentation and procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and professionalism of training room
  • Maintain file copies of necessary documentation.
  • Maintain all licensures & certifications pertaining to job responsibilities.
  • Assist in ordering medical supplies for CBR and monitoring supply budgets.
  • Assist in inventory of medical and rehabilitation supplies in CBR.
  • Assist in calibration and required services for therapeutic modalities.
  • Perform additional duties directed by Medical Director and/or Head Medical Coordinator as needed.

Networking

  • Continue to build key relationships with local, national & international experts regarding sports performance, health & wellness in an effort to raise brand awareness and stay on the cutting edge of the field.

Basic Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Three to five years of experience working with professional (preferred) or college sports team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with familiarity using medical terminology
  • Certified Athletic Trainer or licensed Physical Therapist
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Familiarity with EMR platform
