Position Title: Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach / Game Day Site Manager.
Department: Athletics
Classification: Exempt.
FTE: 1.0.
Work Schedule: Hours will vary. Assistant Coach - regular evening and weekend hours required (i.e. games/practice/ recruiting activities); travel up to 30% of work schedule, which includes local (Twin Cities metro area) and national travel; overnight trips average 5-7 trips per year; Game Day Site Manager - expectation is to cover all home games of the sport assigned with some flexibility around recruiting and non-traditional seasons (if applicable). The Head Coach of sport will be a back-up for game day site management.
Work Location: On Campus.
Salary: $45,000 plus benefits.
The St. Olaf Athletic Department is in search of a talented and dedicated individual who will assist in the leadership and direction for all aspects of the men’s basketball program; support the Athletic Strategic Plan and the College’s mission by fostering a competitive and positive student-athlete experience; coach and develop student-athletes for success on and off the field; ensure compliance with NCAA, MIAC, and College policies.
Essential Job Duties:
Coaching
- Direct, organize and administer all aspects of the instruction, practice planning and advisement of the basketball program.
- Assist head coach with implementing training programs/practice plans.
- Provide quality coaching and instruction to student-athletes during pre-season, in-season practices, and competitions.
- Mentor student-athletes to promote athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth.
- Attend all competitions and assist with game strategies.
- Assist with travel arrangements, meal planning, fundraising activities, home competitions/meet management, and equipment issue/return/care.
- Attend athletic department staff meetings and program staff meetings.
- Actively recruit qualified student-athletes.
- Formulate and execute a recruiting plan with the head coach that targets a diverse group of potential student-athletes that can achieve high levels of success academically, socially and athletically.
- Execute the recruiting plan by attending opportunities to evaluate potential student athletes regularly, maintain consistent effective honest communication with potential student athletes, maintain contact with high school and AAU coaches, as well as parents.
- Coordinate campus visits and participate in those visits in a professional manor 3. Assist with opponent scouting, film review, and scouting reports.
- Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
- Comply with all NCAA division III, MIAC and St. Olaf Bylaws.
- Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
- Assist and/or coordinate basketball camps in conjunction with the St. Olaf Camps, Conferences and Events Office.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach or athletic department.
Game Day Site Manager
- Secure and organize student workers
- Pre-Game.
- Set up the event venue well in advance; sound system, chairs, tables, scoreboard, and other equipment for the sport.
- Greet the visiting team and officials and usher them to where they need to go.
- Verify that game-day staff (ticket takers, scoreboard operators, ball chasers, etc.) are present and assist them as needed.
- In-Game.
- Problem-solve any technical or equipment issues that arise.
- Monitor the crowd and act accordingly to promote a safe and respectful, competitive environment.
- Interact with fans and visitors to create a positive game day atmosphere.
- Post-Game.
- Tear down the event venue as needed; sound system, chairs, tables, scoreboard, and other equipment for the sport.
- Assist the visiting team and officials with any reasonable requests they have before leaving campus.
- Lock the ticket and concession money away in the appropriate location.
- Report any in-game or fan issues to the Athletic Director and/or Associate Athletic Director.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- Reports to the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
- This position supervises student workers.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Experience:
- 1+ year of high school, club or college coaching experience.|
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s Degree or PhD.
- Experience: 3+ years of College coaching experience.
Prerequisites:
- Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical.
