Job Description

Primary Accountability

The Assistant Medical Director is responsible to provide and oversee the provision and supervision of professional care services of doctoral level medical providers in a Patient Centered Health Home context, with a focus on access to care.

of Primary Responsibilities

  1. Assistant Medical Director provides management to departmental staff.
    1. Responsible for performance management of departmental employees, including all managers, supervisors, and employees in the department, including recognition, performance evaluations, formal coaching and counseling, and making decisions or recommendations regarding necessary disciplinary actions.
    2. Responsible for recommending hiring or firing, and the advancement and promotion of managers, supervisors, and employees in the department, or any other change status of manager, supervisors, and employees in the department employees.
    3. Demonstrates core leadership behaviors and team one approach.
    4. Creates a culture of accountability and excellence
    5. Develops and manages an action plan across assigned employee base to support the strategic direction and obtainment of goals of the organization, effectively leading change when necessary.
    6. Empowers staff through effective communication and talent building.
    7. Delegates appropriate departmental duties and responsibilities to assigned team members while ensuring department performance.
    8. Assists with the development of the departmental budget and monitors budget to ensure expenses do not exceed budget.
    9. Ensures regulatory compliance for assigned departments, and compliance with all workflows, policies, and procedures.
    10. Ensures development of department/division managers and supervisors receive instruction/training that is in compliance with training plan, including on the job training to develop department employees. Works with manager and/or supervisor to ensure necessary remediation is taken with department/division employees assigned.
    11. Recommends workflow, policy, and procedure changes based on observations from performance metrics, outcomes, and feedback from supervisor.
    12. Ensures department maintains compliance with all employee related reporting and tracking.
    13. Assistant Medical Director has the authority to hire, promote and recommend disciplinary action that could lead to termination.
  2. Responsible for providing direct provision and supervision of professional care services of doctoral level medical providers.
    1. Implements clinical protocol and guidelines.
    2. Establishes goals.
    3. Addresses site provider needs assessments on an on-going basis.
    4. Assists in professional staff recruitment activities.
    5. Prepares the orientation schedule for Doctoral level or mid-level staff members.
    6. Ensures room assignments and scheduling for professional staff.
  3. Responsible for providing input to Medical Directors on design, implementation, and execution of programs at the Network.
  4. Responsible for the direct provision of primary care medical services meeting all established productivity expectations.
    1. Will provide examination and will review appropriate laboratory, referral and imaging results to determine a diagnosis.
    2. Expected to document visits accurately utilizing appropriate templates, and record relevant data to attain a diagnosis.
    3. Accountable for attaining budgeted visits.
    4. Accountable for meeting clinical care measures.
    5. Accountable for locking records in the 72 hour window.
  5. Responsible for ensuring teams meet the primary care needs of the communities we serve and the organization meets clinical goals.
    1. Provide comprehensive, continuous and coordinated medical care for acute and chronic illness at all ages within the context of family unit in a community setting.
    2. Comprehensive health care including health promotion and maintenance, prevention of illness and disability, and application of holistic healthcare model with focus on addressing both protective factors and risk factors affecting the health and wellbeing of patient.
    3. Management of chronic diseases and acute illness with broad range knowledge in procedural skills, coordination of care with specialists, and utilization of community resources when appropriate.
    4. Advocate access to health care with focus of structured evaluation, early intervention and health promotion.
    5. Consults with supervising physician or other team members on cases that need further input.
    6. Works within and helps to promote the Patient Centered Health Home model of care.
  6. Accountable for providing excellent customer service and care.
    1. Consistently behaves with courtesy when interacting with patients/ family members, support staff, and Network staff.
    2. Provider remains aware of wait time during the daily workflow.
    3. Responsible for providing the patient with educational materials and resources appropriate to the patient’s health literacy needs.
  7. Accountable for patient status as measured by relevant clinical quality measures.
    1. Promotes and participates in daily huddles
    2. Incorporates the participation of ancillary health team members in managing the care of patients / families.
    3. Responsible for setting and monitoring self- management plans.
    4. Responsible for assisting in the assurance of clinical procedures and the maintenance of up-to-date clinical protocols.
    5. Completes chart and peer review responsibility in a timely manner.
  8. Assists the patient care team with performance improvement efforts, staff education and FHCN promotion.
    1. Responsible for assisting the patient care team with performance evaluations and quality improvement.
    2. Where relevant participate in rotation of medical, physician assistant students and dental residents.
    3. Participates in health fairs & other community events.
    4. Participates in site & provider meetings in a meaningful way.
  9. Meets Network and credentialing expectations for licensure, and employment.
  10. Responsible for adhering to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy, recognizing that regular attendance is considered an essential function of all FHCN positions. Absenteeism is not being at work or failing to attend a paid workshop, training, or event unless the absence is protected by law.
  11. Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location, both at the beginning of a shift or during a shift, based on business need.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

of Primary Attributes

Professional & Technical Knowledge:

Effective June 1, 2026, all individuals hired into the role must:

  1. Possesses specific advanced knowledge and skills, including written and verbal communication skills, computational, computer, and technical skills, and mathematical knowledge, frequently acquired through one of the following:
    1. Completion of a Doctoral-level degree program with a recognized major with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; or
    2. Successful attainment and maintenance of a valid, active professional license required for the role, issued by the appropriate governing or regulatory body.
  2. Four years of leadership experience or five years of progressively greater responsibility or significant contributions to projects and initiatives that demonstrate leadership skills.
  3. Performance of the duties and responsibilities of the job requires extensive formal training in Medical Studies, including an understanding of the application of the theory and practices of Medicine learned during completion of an accredited medical school program.
  4. Have a minimum credit score of 650.

Technical Skills:

  1. Ability to prepare more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs and other elements.
  2. Ability to use Microsoft Excel to analyze data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
  3. Ability to develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including the use of embedded objects, transitions and other elements.

Licenses & Certifications: Licensed to practice medicine in the state of California.

Communications Skills:

  1. Job duties require the employee to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, their opinions and extrapolations of information they collect and synthesize/analyze.
  2. Responsible for the resolution of conflicts that may arise because of disagreements between employees, between employees and customers/clients, or with the public, other legal entities or governmental authorities.
  3. Compiles, analyzes and prepares information in an effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation.
  4. Effectively conveys technical information to non-technical audiences.

Pay Scale:

Min Salary Rate: $292,336.79

Max Salary Rate: $467,738.86
