Job Purpose: As a Blasting Officer, the primary responsibility is to oversee and coordinate all aspects of designing, planning, and executing drilling and blasting operations within the mine. This involves ensuring adherence to safety guidelines, government regulations, and company policies. Key duties include conducting daily toolbox talks, planning and executing drilling and blasting activities as per company SOPs and regulatory guidelines, guiding shift incharge for safe and productive operations, coordinating with colliery engineers, and ensuring compliance with maintenance schedules and record-keeping requirements. Additionally, the role involves managing contractors, fostering a culture of safety, and implementing measures to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall operational efficiency.
Blasting Officer - Coal Mining
Drilling and Blasting Operations:
Develop and implement drilling patterns and blasting patterns for efficient coal seam removal.
Develop detailed blast designs and plans based on geological data, operational requirements, and safety standards.
Collaborate with mine engineers and surveyors to determine the optimal placement and quantity of explosives for each blast.*Supervise explosive handling procedures to maintain safety standards.
Manage the cost of blasting operations through the selection of the most cost-effective blasting material, creating blasting plans, and strategy development.
Prepare blast sites according to the approved blast plan, ensuring all safety measures are in place.
Drill blast holes to the specified depth and diameter, and load explosives as per the blast design.
Conduct post-blast analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the blast and identify any areas for improvement.
Collect and analyze data on fragmentation, muckpile characteristics, and environmental impact.
Magazine Maintenance and Explosive Handling:
Ensure all explosives are stored securely in designated, compliant storage facilities.
Monitor storage conditions to prevent any safety hazards, such as temperature or humidity fluctuations.
Maintain accurate records of explosives inventory, including quantities received, used, and remaining.
Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure all explosives are accounted for and stored correctly.
Statutory Record Maintenance and Government Coordination:
Maintain accurate records of drilling and blasting activities, equipment deployment, and maintenance.
Ensure compliance with DGMS guidelines and SOPs for record-keeping.
Obtain necessary permits and approvals for blasting activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Submit periodic reports to DGMS, including monthly returns, vibration studies, load sheets, and other required documentation.
Safety and Compliance:
Lead toolbox talks to promote safety awareness among staff and contractors.
Enforce safety guidelines, environmental regulations, and mine closure/reclamation requirements.
Conduct periodic mine rounds to observe operations and ensure compliance with safety standards, including ground vibration, sound air pressure, fly rocks, and shattering effects.
Operational Efficiency and Digital Dexterity:
Collaborate with colliery engineers to optimize mine operations and achieve production targets.
Implement measures to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
Provide guidance and training to shift incharge and contract employees to foster a culture of safety and excellence.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deploy digital tools that align with business objectives.
Ensure the effective utilization of digital platforms to improve team efficiency and productivity.
