Job Purpose

The Supply Chain Management Operations Department is responsible for the internal material handling operations at the Honda automobile powertrain and final assembly sites across North America.
Specifically, the SCO Operations Group Leader will drive direction and lead the associates that manage the SCO Equipment, Safety, Intra Company Shipping, return flow of packaging, and overall plant operations including yard. The Group Lead will also drive direction with Contracted Logistics Leadership to ensure daily targets are met then root cause and counter measures applied when gaps occur.
Responsible to assist the department in achieving strategic objectives, lead key development areas, manage related KPIs, personnel, and performance to support and promote Honda’s long-term objectives related to ICE profitability, transition to BEV, and carbon neutrality goals. Network with business partners outside of core department to break down barriers and link group members and stakeholders for greater output.

Key Accountabilities

  • Associate Development: encourage growth and learning, maintain training plans, engage in associate recognition, feedback, and coaching, performance monitoring and workload planning. Lead and set overall direction and goals for the team; drive influence and lead the Honda way; Foster relationships and build team trust.
  • Manages a team of 20+ indirect 3PL and 8 direct SCO associates responsible to ensure Receiving and Delivery processes meet the Plant daily production requirements, while meeting both Plant and Department Quality and Delivery KPI. Taking accountability of the group and address medium to high complexity problems with team members and communicates progress & gaps with Department and Division leaders.
  • Drives initiatives which align with SCM strategy and manages Contracted Logistics Companies operational performance including Safety, receiving, delivery, return flow, and shipping processes. Track, communicate, root cause and countermeasure KPI gaps across all levels of the department.
  • Lead, direct and execute critical projects, Business Plan Themes, and other initiatives, to support SCO strategic direction. Takes initiative to develop and implement improvement themes that permanently countermeasure root cause. Present or escalate when necessary.
  • Demonstrate solid base of operational knowledge, using experience and knowledge to continually improve efficiency and effectiveness of tasks within area of expertise. Execute activities/tasks to achieve strategic objectives.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Business or Supply Chain related degree or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years relevant experience
  • Critical problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks/ projects in order of importance.
  • Willingness to take initiative.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Relationship building, people leadership and development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Project management capability.
  • Good understanding of parts flow, logistics, and delivery systems from a production aspect.

Working Conditions

  • This position is a mixture of open office environment and going to the spot; trailer yard, warehouse or production floor.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with demanding and critical deadlines.
  • Expected to work between 40-50 hours per week.
  • Minimal travel requirements.
