Assistant Manager, Hospital Laboratory

Location: Kauai, HI

Schedule: Day Shift, Must be available Sunday–Saturday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, including holidays, Flexibility to work other shifts as needed

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a leading clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory in Hawaii seeking an Assistant Manager, Hospital Laboratory to support laboratory operations at a hospital on Kauai. This is a full-time leadership opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional ready to combine their technical background with people leadership, operational oversight, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate is an experienced MT, MLS, MLT, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist with at least five years of laboratory experience and two years of management experience. We're looking for a hands-on leader who can support day-to-day operations, develop and coach staff, maintain inspection readiness, and step into overall departmental leadership in the Laboratory Manager's absence.

The Role You'll Play:

  • Partner with the Laboratory Manager to oversee daily hospital laboratory operations, staffing, workflow, service levels, and departmental priorities.
  • Provide leadership and direction to supervisors, senior staff, coordinators, and other laboratory team members.
  • Manage employee performance, training, competency, development, and corrective action as appropriate.
  • Assume responsibility and authority for laboratory operations in the Laboratory Manager's absence.
  • Ensure laboratory operations meet applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including CLIA, CAP, TJC, and AABB standards. Assistant Manager, Hospital Lab…
  • Support hospital and laboratory inspection readiness, quality assurance, safety, and compliance initiatives.
  • Evaluate staffing, workflow, instrumentation, supplies, and processes to identify opportunities for improved quality and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee technical validations and evaluations, including Point-of-Care and laboratory-developed testing, as applicable.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting, financial performance, resource planning, and capital improvement recommendations.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership, laboratory partners, vendors, and other departments on process improvement and operational initiatives.
  • Support LIS/HIS troubleshooting, interface builds, and laboratory information system improvements.
  • Participate in laboratory rounds, technical problem-solving, and interpretation of critical or complex testing issues.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, medical technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  • At least 2 years of laboratory management experience.
  • At least one year of training and/or experience in high-complexity testing within the applicable specialty or subspecialty.
  • Current MT, MLS, or MLT certification through an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health State Laboratories Division.
  • Current Hawaii State license as a Technologist or Technician.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and accreditation requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop employees, make sound operational decisions, and troubleshoot complex laboratory issues.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work across laboratory, hospital, and executive teams.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Experience with pre-analytical laboratory functions is preferred.

Salary & Benefits:

  • $87,000–$113,752 (depending on experience)
