Working closely with the Manager, Environmental Services, the Assistant Manager plays a key leadership role in coordinating and administering all environmental services operations. This includes housekeeping, pest management, sanitation programs, refuse and solid‑waste disposal, wastewater management, and the day‑to‑day supervision of housekeeping staff. The Assistant Manager contributes to program planning, drives the implementation of best practices, and ensures high‑quality service delivery and evaluation across all areas.The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in infection prevention and control within healthcare environments, evidence‑based cleaning and disinfection practices, and occupational health and safety compliance. They will have proven experience managing operational budgets, addressing service‑level concerns, supporting staff performance, and reporting on quality‑assurance and quality‑control initiatives that strengthen environmental services.

  • Wednesday-Sunday 8AM-4PM (Monday-Tuesday OFF)
  • Monday-Friday 11AM-7PM (Saturday-Sunday OFF)

What You Bring

EducationDiploma in Environmental Management, Business Administration, or related field and five (5) to seven (7) years' related experience in a multi-site organization including experience with quality assurance programs and environmental services policy and procedures within healthcare settings, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of health facility support service operations within a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of contract management, budget and cost/benefit analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with quality assurance programs and the ability to critically assess and implement policy, procedures and standards and influence change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operational and project management principles, methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects to ensure successful completion including assisting in the preparation, monitoring and reporting of associated budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including preparing reports and presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Sound judgment, critical thinking and effective decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and problem-solve issues towards effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and balance work while respond to changing priorities and unforeseen circumstances.

Your Day-To-Day

  • Operational Leadership: Oversees day‑to‑day environmental services operations, ensuring effective staffing, equipment utilization, and timely resolution of service‑level or performance issues.
  • Strategic & Program Planning: Contributes to departmental strategic goals by identifying priorities, supporting related initiatives, and recommending improvements to meet organizational service requirements.
  • Service Excellence & Innovation: Evaluates operations, implements process improvements, leads pilot projects and equipment trials, and reports on outcomes, risks, and recommendations to enhance productivity and service quality.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Monitors daily work practices to ensure adherence to departmental safety standards and regulatory requirements, including WorkSafeBC and WHMIS protocols.
  • People Leadership: Supervises staff, manages scheduling and leaves, conducts hiring and training, sets performance expectations, completes evaluations, and addresses disciplinary matters, including escalation to termination when required.
  • Labour Relations & Partner Engagement: Interprets and administers collective agreements, participates in grievance processes and confidential employee matters, contributes to essential‑service planning, and represents the department in meetings with clients, contractors, and residents/patients.
  • Budget, Quality & Resource Management: Supports budget development and monitoring, verifies expenditures, advances quality‑improvement and assurance initiatives, compiles and analyzes performance data, and ensures materials, equipment, and space meet operational standards.
