Gray Construction is looking for an Assistant Manager, Electrical, Preconstruction Services to support the Preconstruction team in our Lexington, KY office.

The Assistant Electrical Manager will play a key role in the pre-construction phase, helping to estimate project costs, coordinate bids with subcontractors, and ensure the feasibility of electrical systems and controls. This position is ideal for professionals with a few years of experience who are looking to develop their technical expertise, communication skills, and business acumen in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

Who we want…

    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or related discipline) is preferred, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
    • Equivalent years of related experience will be considered in place of a technical degree.
    • Pursuit of an MBA or related business qualification is desirable.
    • Prior experience in construction estimating or project management is preferred but not required.
    • Electrical Candidates – Experience with electrical distribution systems, controls, lighting, power generation, process engineering, electrical design, single line diagrams, or construction management is preferred but not required.
    • Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail.
    • Travel less than 15%.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with estimating software is a plus.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

What we expect…

  • Cost Estimating:
    • Analyze historical data to prepare accurate cost estimates for electrical components of projects.
    • Collaborate with senior managers to refine estimating processes and improve accuracy.
  • Subcontractor Coordination:
    • Engage with electrical and controls subcontractors to gather quotes, level bids, and assess capabilities.
    • Ensure subcontractor estimates align with project requirements and budget constraints.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed records of estimates, communications, and project specifications.
    • Prepare and present reports on estimating activities and project status to senior management.
  • Project Management:
    • Assist in the preparation of project proposals and bids.
    • Support the transition from pre-construction to construction phases by providing necessary documentation and information.
  • Design
    • Influence and guide the design of new systems, buildings, and campuses.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
