Overview

THE ROLE: Responsible for independently managing Plastic Waste Management (PWM) compliance requirements and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations under India's Plastic Waste Management Rules. The role drives end-to-end EPR calculations, compliance reporting, recycled content monitoring, and sustainability initiatives while ensuring audit ready documentation, regulatory compliance, and achievement of organizational sustainability objectives.

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:

  • Independently manage compliance with Plastic Waste Management (PWM) Rules, 2016 and all subsequent amendments, ensuring timely fulfillment of regulatory obligations.
  • Own and execute end-to-end EPR target calculations by coordinating with procurement, suppliers, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to collect, validate, and reconcile plastic packaging data.
  • Classify plastic packaging across applicable categories (Rigid, Flexible, Multi-layered, and Compostable) and calculate category-wise, state-wise, pre-consumer, and post-consumer EPR obligations.
  • Manage CPCB EPR portal activities, including registrations, filings, reporting submissions, and maintenance of supporting compliance documentation.
  • Reconcile procurement, supplier declarations, finance records, GRN data, and EPR credits to ensure accurate and compliant reporting.
  • Coordinate with recyclers, Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), and waste management agencies to ensure timely generation, validation, transfer, and closure of EPR credits and certificates.
  • Monitor compliance with recycled plastic content requirements as per Plastic Waste Management Rules.
  • Support and execute sustainability initiatives focused on circular economy practices, collection/take-back programs, and stakeholder awareness campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, trackers, management reports, and audit-ready compliance records for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor regulatory developments related to PWM, EPR, recycled content mandates, and sustainability requirements, driving timely implementation across the organization.

WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT THE TEAM:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Individual Contributor role.
  • No direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Leads cross-functional coordination with internal stakeholders, suppliers, recyclers, PROs, and external compliance partners to ensure successful execution of compliance and sustainability programs.

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Plastic Waste Management Rules, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations, and related compliance frameworks in India.
  • Hands-on expertise in EPR calculations, including category-wise, state-wise, pre-consumer, and post-consumer waste assessments.
  • Strong analytical, data validation, reconciliation, and reporting capabilities with advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple stakeholders and drive action across internal and external teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail, documentation practices, and compliance orientation.
  • Strong execution, project coordination, and follow-up skills.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.

Experience

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in Plastic Waste Management, EPR compliance, environmental compliance, sustainability, ESG, or related functions.
  • Experience managing CPCB EPR portal registrations, filings, and reporting activities.
  • Experience working with packaging suppliers, recyclers, PROs, and waste management agencies.
  • Experience conducting data validation, reconciliation, and compliance documentation management.

Education

  • B.E./B.Tech. in Packaging Technology / Packaging Engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering / environmental science,
  • Plus exposure to Packaging Technology/Engineering, Sustainability, or Waste Management
