Job Description

 The Assistant Manager of Attractions helps to oversee the planning, maintenance, and execution of multiple large-scale, revenue-generating attractions, including but not limited to our Destination: Dinosaurs experience as well as supporting other annual and temporary exhibits and installations. This position requires strong communication skills, organization, and prioritizing safety procedures to ensure Dallas Zoo events and attractions achieve desired expectations, on time and on budget.  This position reports directly to the Manager of Special Events and Attractions and works closely with the Guest Services Department and Facilities Department to help create Best Day Ever experiences at the Dallas Zoo.   SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Assists the leadership team with event and attraction development planning and implementation.• Supervises a team in the upkeep and maintenance of attractions. • Trains staff on ride operation best practices and sets the example.• Conducts or supervises daily ride and attraction safety protocols to ensure that rides and attractions operate in accordance with safety regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and DZM policies.• Contributes to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and ensure these practices are understood and followed for accountability.  • Collaborates with various Zoo departments to ensure events and attractions create a safe experience for guests and animals.• Helps track and maintain material inventory, supplies, and equipment.  • Ensure work areas and work carts are organized and in good condition.• Coordinates third party vendor work (sometimes after-hours) to ensure that contracted work is conducted in accordance with Zoo guidelines for safety, efficiency and guest satisfaction. • Escalates ride and attraction safety issues, stoppages, and/or operational issues to management and maintenance team.• Perform other duties as assigned in other guest service areas as needed. QUALIFICATIONS • Must have a high school diploma or GED.• Must have experience in rides and/or attractions, preferably in a theme park or zoo setting.   • Must be adaptable and have the ability to multi-task under pressure, making quick decisions in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a pleasant attitude.• Ability to effectively supervise work activities.• Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.• Must be able to establish and maintain an effective rapport with all levels of management, employees, and Zoo guests and the ability to effectively respond to guest situations.• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.• Strong organizational and planning skills• Knowledge and ability to operate standard office equipment such as a personal computer, multi-line telephone, and two-way radio • Ability to operate point of sale equipment, including computers and credit card machines (or ability to learn existing point of sale equipment). • Must understand the value and need for meeting deadlines and communicating effectively about doing so.• Commitment to the mission and values of the Dallas Zoo.• Must have a valid Driver’s license to operate Zoo vehicles and reliable transportation to commute to work.• Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
