At Smartbox, our assistive technology empowers people with disabilities who experience speech difficulties to express themselves, connect with others, and live more independent lives.
We’re proud to be a global leader in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), supporting people across the UK, US, Europe, and beyond. But what truly sets us apart is our people: passionate, collaborative, and driven by the impact our products have every day.
If you’re motivated by meaningful work and want to apply your technical expertise to something that genuinely changes lives, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance team and help keep Smartbox financial operations accurate, reliable and ready to support our global mission. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys detail, structure and collaboration, and wants their finance skills to contribute to technology that helps people communicate, connect and live more independently.
You’ll support our month-end cycle, prepare journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations, keep balance sheet and intercompany records accurate, and help with monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting. You’ll also support R&D project accounting in Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, assist with expenses and purchase ledger cover when needed, and work closely with colleagues across Finance, Orders and the wider business to resolve queries and improve our ways of working.
You’ll be working at the intersection of:
Month-end management accounts, reconciliations and reporting.
R&D project accounting, capitalisation and quarterly analysis.
Cross-business finance support in a global AAC and assistive technology organisation.
We need someone who can combine core accounting knowledge with curiosity about how the business works. You’ll help ensure our financial information is accurate and timely, while supporting a purpose-led organisation where good decisions help more people access life-changing communication technology.
We’re looking for someone organised, accurate and proactive, with the confidence to work with detailed financial information and communicate clearly with colleagues in different locations.
AAT qualified, or studying towards ACCA, CIMA or a similar accounting qualification (study support is available).
A good understanding of basic double-entry accounting.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines accurately and consistently.
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including confidence using Microsoft Teams to collaborate with remote colleagues.
A positive, flexible approach to administrative tasks, problem-solving and supporting wider team priorities.
Monthly management accounts, general ledger journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
Balance sheet, bank, intercompany and fixed asset reviews.
R&D project accounting and reporting in Microsoft Dynamics Business Central.
Sensitive data, compliance requirements and continuous improvement within a regulated, purpose-led environment.
Purpose-driven work where your finance expertise supports technology that gives people freedom, connection and a voice.
A global team with a shared mission to make the world more inclusive and accessible.
A supportive, collaborative culture built on respect, trust, loyalty and care.
Hybrid working, with time in our Malvern office to stay connected with the team.
Opportunities to grow, lead improvements and shape how finance supports an ambitious international group.
A strong benefits package, wellbeing support, social events, training and development opportunities.
