The Role: Assistant Maintenance Work Package Manager

The purpose of this position is to oversee the management of nominated projects and activities, as delegated by a Project Manager at the Garden Island Defence Precinct (GIDP) for Above Water Systems (AWS). The role is critical to ensure a first-class customer service experience to external clients and internal teams. This role is situated at the Garden Island Defence Precinct.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising closely and collaboratively with functional teams to ensure efficient delivery of projects.

  • Effective management of stakeholders and associated communications both external and internal.

  • Developing customer relationships by ensuring products and services delivered exceed where possible, customer expectations.

  • Supporting gate reviews in accordance with Thales Governance framework as required.

  • Monitoring and managing Project integrated schedule, budget, baselines, risks and opportunities.

  • Coordinating and negotiating input from suppliers and partners.

  • Guiding, coaching and providing direct support to less experienced Project Team members

  • Provide support during the bid phase to ensure appropriate project management coverage, including schedules based on the customer’s requirements

  • Management of Industrial Relations, HSE, Security issues on-site and off-site

Your Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven and effective leadership skills with a high level of interpersonal and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams

  • Diploma in Project Management or other suitable discipline.

  • At least three years’ Bid and Project Management experience with subcontractors, suppliers and multi-partners / major co-contractors.

  • Experience working with a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).

  • The confidence and maturity of judgement to represent the company

  • Exceptional written communication skills including authoring content and editing.

  • Strong internal stakeholder management in a matrix organisation.

  • Strong customer focus and external relationship management
