Assistant Library Officer (25260701)

The Library is seeking a technology-driven and enthusiastic Assistant Library Officer who thrives in a collaborative environment to join the Digital Initiatives and Research Cluster (DIR). The successful candidate will be a proactive, creative, and eager learner responsible for supporting digital scholarship projects and CollabTech Commons facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing and cleaning data for various types of digital scholarship projects, and support the team’s database management initiatives;
  • Provide training to project staff on data indexing and data enhancement, and monitor their work progress and accuracy;
  • Assist in scoping and conceptualising project data analytics and make recommendations for project data visualisation;
  • Support the team in planning and maintaining the digital scholarship public website, and provide administrative support to the Digital Scholarship Manager;
  • Provide direct support for the operations of the CollabTech Commons, including counter service, monitoring student sessions, managing online course rooms, and developing training materials related to data literacy; and
  • Participate in any other tasks including dashboard data checking as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in Mathematics, Data Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines, with at least two years of relevant experience in data processing using Excel, Python, and MySQL, as well as in supporting prototyping equipment. Candidates with a master’s degree and less experience are also welcome to apply;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with a strong willingness to learn new knowledge and skills are required;
  • Fluency in both English and Chinese, including Cantonese and Putonghua, are required;
  • Experience in online system development, database design, JavaScript, PHP, Google Maps APIs, XML, JSON-LD, RDF, schema.org, SPSS, ArcGIS, and/or Tableau is an advantage; and
  • Experience in using prototyping machines including 3D scanners, 3D printers, cutting plotters, and laser cutters, is preferred.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of up to two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review, mutual agreement, and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, in the range of HK$22,275 – HK$38,375 per month.
