Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic early career academic to join our team, contributing to the delivery of teaching and academic support for Graphic Design and Communication students. Under the supervision and guidance of a senior academic member of staff, this role will involve teaching, assessment, and acting as an Academic Personal Tutor. The successful candidate will also undertake a combination of scholarship and/or enterprise activities, various administrative tasks, and contribute to the University's international agenda, leveraging expertise in Graphic Design.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

(Under the supervision and guidance of a senior academic member of staff, and using established curriculum):

  • Deliver academic support services, seminars, tutorials, workshops, computer laboratory classes, and other small group learning activities to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Provide skills instruction to individuals or small groups and/or deliver support to students on placement.

    Mark and moderate assignments, exam scripts, or other assessment materials according to pre-set requirements and protocols.
  • Assess students' skills through practical assignments and class tests to pre-set requirements.

    Seek ways of improving students’ learning by reviewing effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement, and drawing upon feedback from various sources.
  • Lead/support small special project areas, such as managing the School’s social media/web presence, organizing student field trips, and coordinating guest lectures.
  • Provide appropriate guidance and support to students, ensuring proper maintenance of student records (e.g., marks lists, attendance records).
  • Contribute to the academic tutoring of students within the School.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of consultancy projects, professional learning and development programmes, and knowledge exchange events.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and abide by University health and safety policies and practices, observing the University’s Equal Opportunities policy and Dignity and Respect policy at all times.
  • Commence/continue to study for an appropriate Postgraduate qualification.

Qualifications:

  • Honours degree in an appropriate subject Or (if from Professional practice background) an Honours Degree and / or appropriate professional qualification and membership.
  • Excellent knowledge of academic theory and/or practice in a relevant discipline, such as Design & Media.
  • Ability to help student groups develop professional skills.
  • Ability to deliver learning activities.
  • Planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability and willingness to continue to update knowledge and expertise and contribute to innovation and development in discipline or area of specialism.
  • An appreciation of other cultures; the global reach of the University
