Job Description
Fellowship Clinical Duties:
- First call for inpatient and outpatient consults (attending consultation always required).
- First call for the diving emergency hotlines (attending consultation required initially, progressive responsibility over the course of the year).
- Conduct morning and afternoon rounds and lead the clinical team by assigning tasks to interns and residents as appropriate.
- Orient and assist incoming residents and interns.
- Supervise residents and interns (progressive responsibility over the course of the year).
- Prepare and present introductory HBO/Diving lectures to residents and interns (progressive responsibility over the course of the year).
- Patient evaluations prior to and following each treatment.
- Help nurse manager (Birgitta Van Dooren) maintain the patient photo database and wound measurement records in the center’s electronic record system.
- Supervise the transport and management of critically ill ICU patients (progressive responsibility over the course of the year).
- Co-ordination of treatment plans between the Hyperbaric Center and the various referral services. The Fellow will be the primary physician responsible for the collection of data, scheduling follow-up appointments, communication with referral physicians, writing all discharge, summary notes and correspondence with referral physicians.
- Conduct dive physicals for the experimental subjects participating in the Hyperbaric Center research dive protocols.
- Organize, invite participants, and present all HMU cases at the monthly online HBO ACGME Fellowship’s eConference.
- Maintain records of all individual work hours and seminar participation in MedHub.
20% Attending Clinical Duties:
- Provide anesthesia services for a broad range of surgical procedures across multiple specialties.
- Deliver high-quality perioperative care and ensure patient safety throughout the surgical continuum.
- Supervise and teach residents, fellows, and medical students in both clinical and didactic settings.
- Participate in departmental academic activities, such as research, quality improvement, and scholarly projects.
- Engage in collaborative, multidisciplinary clinical care across the institution.
Qualifications
Qualification:
Exceptionally qualified graduate applicant has (1) completed a residency program in the core specialty outside the continental United States that was not accredited by the ACGME, AOA, ACGME-I, RCPSC or CFPC,and (2) demonstrated clinical excellence, in comparison to peers, throughout training. Additional evidence of exceptional qualifications is required, which may include one of the following: (a) participation in additional clinical or research training in the specialty or subspecialty; (b) demonstrated scholarship in the specialty or subspecialty; and/or (c) demonstrated leadership during or after residency. Applicants being considered for these positions must be informed of the fact that their training may not lead to certification by ABMS member boards or AOA certifying boards.
