The starting pay for this position is $17.30/hr. After successful completion of a one-year trial period with OTRD, the rate of pay may increase to $17.82/hr.

Basic Purpose

The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for management, supervision, or assisting in the management of golf course grounds and maintenance. This includes support for turf management operations, landscaping, facility upkeep, and the execution of seasonal and long-term maintenance programs to ensure the course meets quality standards.

Typical Job Duties

  • Assist in managing and maintaining golf course property, including turf, landscaping, irrigation systems, and clubhouse grounds.

  • Maintains open communication with the golf course and park operations team regarding activities and scheduling.

  • Coordinates the daily maintenance operations with appropriate staff.

  • Inspects the golf course and associated facilities, reports any issue and/or recommends improvements, and may perform play-through evaluations to assess course conditions.

  • Assists in planning and execution of maintenance and project work based on agronomic principles.

  • Supports turf and landscape care, diagnoses and treats turf and plant health issues, and supports pest management efforts.

  • Supervises and trains assigned staff which may include pro-shop personnel, maintenance staff, or groundskeeping staff and seasonal workers, including training and scheduling.

  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and tools by team members.

  • Manages or assists in the management of inventories of materials and supplies and purchasing or recommending purchases within budget guidelines.

  • Maintains documentation and records relevant to course upkeep, staffing, and supply usage.

  • Supervises assigned staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned to support daily operations and agency needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have three (3) years of experience in grounds maintenance, golf course maintenance, or related landscaping work; OR an Associate’s Degree in horticulture, turf management, landscaping or related field and one (1) year of relevant experience.

  • Must possess an Oklahoma Chemical Applicators License within one (1) year of appointment.

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

  • Knowledge of turf grass maintenance, lawn care and gardening operations, landscaping techniques, irrigation systems, chemical application, and plant disease identification.

  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to give clear instruction both verbally and in writing.

  • Experience supervising a team.

  • Scheduled hours will require flexibility, including holidays, weekends, or events, based on the needs of the agency.
