Job Description

General Responsibilities:

The Assistant Geologist provides support for geotechnical, environmental, and materials investigations under the supervision of the project team. Responsibilities include collecting and documenting field data, conducting site observations, assisting with subsurface investigations and testing activities, and supporting data management and reporting efforts. This entry-level position involves significant outdoor field work, travel to project sites, and overnight stays as needed to support project requirements.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

• Assist with geotechnical, environmental, and materials field investigations.
• Observe and document subsurface conditions during drilling and sampling activities.
• Collect soil, rock, groundwater, and other environmental samples in accordance with established procedures.
• Perform field measurements, testing, and site observations.
• Maintain accurate field notes, logs, photographs, and documentation.
• Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of field equipment.
• Follow company safety procedures and participate in daily safety briefings.
• Enter and organize field and laboratory data into company databases and spreadsheets.
• Review data for completeness and accuracy.
• Assist with preparation of boring logs, field reports, tables, and figures.
• Maintain project files and electronic records.
• Support project managers and geologists with administrative and technical tasks as needed.
• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
• Frequent travel to project sites throughout the region.
• Overnight travel required based on project needs.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings and extended workdays.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, walk over uneven terrain, and active construction sites.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods during field activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology or related field.
• A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
• Travel and overnight stays are required for this position

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with GPS equipment, field instrumentation, or sampling procedures.
• Familiarity with geological logging and data management software.
