Assistant General Counsel

Job Summary

The Assistant General Counsel will provide strategic legal support across a broad range of commercial, corporate, operational and business matters for Kontoor Brands’ businesses throughout the Americas, including the Wrangler® and Helly Hansen® brands, reporting to the Deputy General Counsel. The Assistant General Counsel will serve as a legal advisor to business partners across multiple departments including sales, supply chain, information technology, digital, marketing, real estate, finance, treasury, tax, and other corporate functions within the Americas region. This attorney will function as a business generalist, partnering closely with teams and leaders throughout the organization to provide practical legal advice, negotiate and manage commercial transactions, support strategic and corporate initiatives, and identify and mitigate legal and business risks. The successful candidate should have experience negotiating and advising on commercial contracts (including both vendor and customer contracts), real estate leasing matters and other corporate and operational matters commonly encountered in a consumer products, retail and apparel business.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical legal advice and support across a broad range of commercial, corporate, and operational business matters while managing risk.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements. Advise on both customer-facing and vendor contracts.
• Advise on issues commonly encountered in consumer products, retail, and apparel businesses. Support corporate initiatives and business transformation efforts.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and business risks. Help ensure legal compliance while enabling business growth.
• Support operational excellence and continuous improvement of legal processes and service delivery.
• Contribute to the effectiveness and strategic direction of the legal function.
• Ability to deliver practical, business-focused advice in a fast-paced environment.
• Periodically assist Chief Legal Officer and Secretary with securities law compliance, disclosure matters, and other corporate legal initiatives as needed.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor Degree (JD)
• 8-12 years of Legal experience; in-house experience preferred with apparel industry
• Prior work in a global public company is preferred
• Past work experience in the areas of negotiation of standard and nonstandard contracts and subcontracts
• Strong legal judgement, leadership capabilities, commercial acumen, and ability to deliver business-focused advice in a fast-paced environment
