About This Opportunity

The Assistant, Finance Partner plays an important role in providing professional financial advice and project accounting support to senior project leaders and client business units across the University. Working within a collaborative finance environment, the role supports effective financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for operational and grant-funded projects while ensuring compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and funding requirements.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide professional project accounting advice and financial support to Project Managers, Grant Holders, Chief Investigators, and other stakeholders to support the effective management and utilisation of project and grant funding.

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, expenditure reporting, variance analysis, and financial planning activities, ensuring compliance with relevant funding rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Review, process, and monitor financial transactions to ensure operational accounting activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established controls and service standards.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders across client business units, acting as a trusted financial partner and delivering high-quality financial advice and support.

About You

You will be a collaborative and detail-oriented finance professional with strong analytical capability and a customer-focused mindset. You enjoy partnering with stakeholders to provide practical financial advice, support effective project delivery, and contribute to sound financial management within a complex organisational environment.

  • Degree qualifications in accounting, business, commerce or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and professional training.

  • Experience providing accounting, project accounting, management accounting, or financial advisory services within a complex organisational environment.

  • Ability to apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, variance management, and the interpretation of policy or funding requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, providing trusted financial advice and support to achieve positive outcomes.

  • Experience supporting financial planning, expenditure reporting, and financial management activities across operational and/or project-based environments.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, work to deadlines, and deliver accurate outcomes within agreed service standards.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

  • Progress towards or membership of a professional accounting body such as CPA or CA would be highly regarded.
