Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Lambeth to assist with the appointment of an Assistant Finance Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay £142.87 - £188.14 per Day

The Assistant Finance Officer will manage financial processes, support debt recovery, maintain financial controls, build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, and contribute to the efficient delivery of financial services. Experience in either Housing Benefit Overpayment recovery or Adult Social Care debt recovery within a Local Authority is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver responsive and customer-focused exchequer support to allocated service areas.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal services, suppliers, and stakeholders to improve financial processes.
  • Provide financial advice and administrative support to internal customers.
  • Process financial transactions accurately while maintaining a clear audit trail.
  • Contribute to financial reporting and management information.
  • Work with computerised financial systems to analyse data, perform reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies.

Essentials

  • Minimum of three years' recent Local Authority experience recovering Housing Benefit Overpayment debt or Adult Social Care debt
  • Experience independently managing debt recovery caseloads with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of Housing Benefit legislation, Adult Social Care charging processes, and debt recovery procedures.
  • Experience working with vulnerable customers, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), enforcement agents, and partner organisations.
  • Knowledge of Housing Benefit recovery methods including PDP, DEA, BTR, and other recovery processes.
