About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Finance Business Partner to join the team in this permanent, full-time opportunity based at South Brisbane.

The Assistant Finance Business Partner plays a key role in supporting the Senior Finance Business Partner by delivering essential management accounting functions. This includes budget management, forecasting, performance reporting and funding assessments, as well as activities that ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial ledger.

Salary range: $46.96 - $51.73 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As the Assistant Finance Business Partner, you will act as a vital link between the Finance team and the wider business. By providing timely information, insightful analysis, and strategic influence, you will help drive informed decision-making and create value across various business portfolios.

• Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances and anomalies, providing insights that support senior management’s decision-making
• Support ledger integrity and month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing journals, accruals, and conducting ledger reviews
• Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information, resolve discrepancies and ensure accuracy within the ledger
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting by collecting relevant data, preparing budget schedules and updating forecast models
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, including journal entries, general ledger reconciliations and accounts payable/receivable transactions
• Contribute to business cases, financial modelling, variance analysis and grant application administration
• Identify, document and monitor opportunities and risks, actively participating in Performance and Accountability Framework activities

About you

The ideal candidate will have relevant tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in accountancy, economics, commerce, finance, or a related discipline.

• Professional accreditation such as CPA or CA qualification (or currently working toward)
• Experience in management accounting within a large healthcare organisation or a similarly complex service environment
• Solid understanding of key accounting principles and practices
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in analysing financial data
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
• Effective organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software systems
