Assistant Factory Engineer – Utilities

Location: Haridwar Factory, Unilever India

Department: Engineering / Supply Chain - Make

Reporting To: Engineering Manager / Factory Manager

Purpose of the Role

To ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of factory utilities including boilers, chillers, air compressors, electrical systems, and associated infrastructure. The role will drive utility reliability, statutory compliance, energy optimization, CAPEX execution, and continuous improvement initiatives to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations. Key Responsibilities

Utility Operations & Reliability

  • Ensure high availability and efficient operation of utility systems, including:
  • Boilers & steam distribution systems
  • Chillers & refrigeration systems
  • Air compressors & compressed air networks
  • DG sets, transformers, HT/LT electrical systems
  • Water treatment, cooling towers and related utility infrastructure
  • Drive preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programs.
  • Analyze equipment failures and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to improve reliability.

Safety & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements related to boilers, electrical installations, pressure vessels, pollution control, and factory operations.
  • Lead safety audits, risk assessments, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure adherence to Unilever SHE standards and promote a zero-harm culture.

CAPEX & Project Management

  • Plan and execute CAPEX projects related to utilities, infrastructure upgrades, and energy optimization.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, contractor performance, and commissioning activities.
  • Drive cost-effective engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards.

Energy & Sustainability

  • Monitor consumption of electricity, fuel, steam, compressed air, and water.
  • Drive energy-saving, cost-reduction, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support factory carbon reduction and resource-efficiency projects.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive TPM/WCM/Lean initiatives within the utility area.
  • Improve equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, and operational efficiency.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (preferred)
  • Mechanical Engineering candidates with strong utility experience may also be considered.

Experience

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in utility operations, maintenance, or engineering projects within FMCG, Food, Personal Care, Pharma, Chemical, or Manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with boilers, chillers, air compressors, electrical distribution systems, and utility infrastructure is essential.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong knowledge of utility systems and electrical maintenance.
  • Experience in statutory compliance and audits.
  • CAPEX planning and project execution experience.
  • Understanding of TPM, WCM, Lean Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of SAP PM / CMMS systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
