Job Description

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center is seeking an Assistant Facility Manager to manage a year-round aquatic facility, cultivate community relationships, interact with patrons of the facility daily, and support the dynamic programming. The Assistant Facility Manager will report to the General Manager and work with other assistant managers and oversee customer service representatives and lifeguards.

The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center features a World Aquatics-compliant 50-meter competition pool with diving boards, whirlpool, and adjustable bulkheads for competitive swimming, water polo, and synchronized swimming. The facility also includes a leisure pool with a splash pad, water slide, lap lanes, swimming lessons areas, in-water sports, and a lazy river. Additional amenities include an 8,000-square-foot fitness center, group exercise studio, and reservable community rooms for meetings and gatherings.

Specific duties include:

  • Oversee daily aquatic facility operations and staff activities;
  • Hire, manage, and train lifeguards, facility and front desk staff, and customer service teams;
  • Ensure compliance with water safety and operational regulations;
  • Support aquatic programming and year-round facility management;
  • Monitor pump room operations, chemical balancing, and filtration systems;
  • Submit maintenance requests, incident reports, and safety concerns;
  • Manage reservations, registrations, and communications using RecTrac and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Respond to customer inquiries, conduct tours, and promote safe facility use;
  • Coordinate event setup, breakdown, purchasing, and cash-handling procedures; and
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

DPR promotes wellness and vitality through dynamic programs and attractive public spaces. Our facilities range from parks, sports fields, nature and community centers to playgrounds, and a skate park. We are stewards to the County’s natural resources and provide affordable recreational programs and services for people of all ages, abilities, and interests.

Minimums:

  • High School diploma/equivalent; and
  • One (1) year of experience managing/administering recreation aquatics facilities, programs, and activities in a large multi-service-based aquatics facility or similar environment.

Substitution: Additional education may be substituted for experience. Additional experience may be substituted for education.
Desirable Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports, Facilities or Business Management or related field;
  • Managing a large and diverse staff and working in local government setting;
  • Using RecTrac or similar web-based scheduling, registration, and payment system;
  • Using MS Word and Excel; and
  • Lifeguarding and pool safety practices.


Possession of one or more of the following designations preferred:

  • Facility Management Professional (FMP);
  • Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO);
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO); and
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Employee must possess valid CPR, First Aid, MAT and AED certification within 60 days of hire.

  • The selected candidate must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon favorable review of the applicants driving record.

  • A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Hours: Monday - Sunday, hours vary between 4:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m., depending on scheduling needs, which will include some nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.

The official job title is DPR Assistant Facilities Manager.
