
[What the role is]
The Labelling and Standards Department (LSD) administers the Energy Conservation Act to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from the industry and household sectors. Its main mission is to promote efficient use of energy and resources in the various sectors such as industrial, households and public sectors in order to contribute to Singapore’s efforts in mitigating climate change.
[What you will be working on]
Your key role is to continually improve energy efficiency in the household sector and other sectors through the administration and enforcement of the Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) and Mandatory Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) under the Energy Conservation Act (ECA).
You will be responsible for administering the Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) and Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for regulated goods:
Evaluate applications for MELS and MEPS from retailers and suppliers
Conduct compliance checks on retailers and suppliers to ensure correct MELS and MEPS labelling
Conduct regular verification testing to ensure that the energy performance of the registered goods falls within conformance limits.
Support the conduct of feasibility studies/outcomes/impacts studies/ surveys to assess the effectiveness and enhance MELS and MEPS initiatives and legislation.
Review MELS and MEPS levels of regulated goods (e.g air-con)
Support development of labelling scheme and legislation by assess feasibility of extending MELS and MEPS to new appliances and equipment
Engage suppliers and retailers and oversee updates to the MELS/MEPS website
[What we are looking for]
The job might be for you if you possess the following qualities:
At least 5 - 8 years of working experience in a related engineering or environmental field and/or experience in laboratory testing of appliances
Knowledge of engineering thermodynamics
Knowledge of O&M principles of household appliances
Knowledge of international test standards
Outgoing and pleasant personality
Mature, independent, and resourceful
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Highly self-motivated
Patient with a people-oriented disposition
Strong analytical abilities
