We’re currently recruiting for Assistant Engineering Managers across multiple London depots, with vacancies available in Grays, Tottenham, and Enfield.

As Assistant Engineering Manager, you’ll support the day-to-day leadership of the depot engineering function — managing workshop operations, leading skilled teams, and ensuring our fleet meets the demanding standards expected across London’s transport system.
You’ll be at the heart of operations, balancing safety, efficiency, and performance in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Maximise vehicle availability and minimise lost mileage to support service delivery across London routes
Ensure all driver-reported defects are diagnosed, repaired, and recorded promptly
Oversee rapid response to breakdowns, minimising disruption to passengers and services
Maintain high standards of vehicle presentation — ensuring buses leave the workshop clean, safe, and service-ready
Carry out Quality Check Audits on repairs and MOT preparation
Ensure full compliance with Arriva’s Engineering Maintenance Manual and regulatory standards
Collaborate closely with the Traffic team to manage fleet availability and operational pressures
Promote a strong Health & Safety culture, leading by example and supporting audits and safety initiatives
Investigate and report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns appropriately
Support, coach, and develop engineering and support staff to build a high-performing team
Carry out hands-on engineering work when required, including mechanical, electrical, and general servicing
A strong engineering background with proven experience in heavy vehicle maintenance (Bus, HGV, or similar)
A recognised apprenticeship or qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent experience)
Solid understanding of Health & Safety practices (IOSH or similar desirable)
Experience supervising or leading teams in a workshop or depot environment
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to perform under pressure
Strong organisational and communication skills
Full-time, permanent position
Monday–Friday day shifts (with flexibility as required by operational demands)
