Job Description

What if you could shape a career as unique as you?At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and chances to work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.
A little more about your role…

You’ll be joining WSP’s expanding UK wide Engagement team of 60 plus, where you’ll play a meaningful role in shaping how major projects connect with communities. Working on some of the UK’s largest infrastructure programmes—as well as projects across the water, health, energy and environmental sectors—you’ll help deliver engagement that is thoughtful, impactful and built on best practice.

As part of our Planning and Consents business unit, you’ll be supported and mentored by experienced senior engagement specialists as you contribute to public consultation and stakeholder engagement activities. You’ll also collaborate closely with colleagues across WSP, helping to create clear, engaging communications that bring projects to life and ensure a positive experience for the communities we work with.

This is a great opportunity to grow your engagement expertise while working on high‑profile projects in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • helping communities and stakeholders understand projects and how it may impact them by writing easy to understand communications
  • giving people opportunities to ask questions and provide feedback through publishing communications, organising events logistics and helping to run surveys
  • presenting feedback to help projects develop in a responsible way by understanding and data coding and helping prepare reports
  • supporting our clients based around the UK and internationally by attending and minuting meetings, ensuring accuracy in our documents and reports and tracking stakeholder engagement
  • proactively supporting your teams (project, location and Engagement) to deliver quality communications and engagement activity.

What we would be looking for you to demonstrate…

We’re keen to hear from candidates who bring a mix of learning, experience and curiosity. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A degree (or equivalent), or a minimum of two years’ experience in a related field such as engagement, communications, planning or consultation
  • Membership of a relevant professional or trade body (or an interest in working towards one)
  • Exposure to projects within the road, rail, utilities, water, environment or energy sectors is an advantage, but not essential

You’ll be well suited to this role if you enjoy working in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and take pride in delivering high‑quality work. Key competencies include:

  • A collaborative mindset – a strong team player with an enthusiastic, motivated and professional approach
  • Organisation and adaptability – able to manage multiple priorities with a structured approach, while remaining flexible in a changing project environment
  • Excellent attention to detail – highly organised, with the ability to manage a varied workload efficiently
  • Strong writing skills – confident producing clear, accurate and engaging written content
  • Engagement or communications experience – able to demonstrate experience supporting consultation, engagement or communications activities
  • Analytical skills – comfortable analysing both qualitative and quantitative data gathered through consultation and engagement processes
  • Digital and social media awareness – an understanding of how digital channels can be used to connect meaningfully with different audiences
  • Print and production knowledge – familiarity with drafting and print processes to support the delivery of materials for public events

The Consultancy hierarchy structure:

  • Assistant Consultant → Consultant → Senior Consultant → Principal Consultant → Associate → Associate Director → Technical Director → Director
