Examples of duties

This position supports the District Materials Manager by helping oversee materials testing, inspections, and documentation for transportation projects. You play an important part in ensuring that materials used across the district meet all required standards and specifications. As an Assistant District Materials Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Design Reviews: Evaluate asphalt, concrete, and latex modified concrete mix designs and review quality control plans
  • Material Monitoring: Check materials shipped to projects and analyze test results to ensure they meet specifications
  • Bridge Material Oversight: Review and approve material sources for bridge construction and preservation projects
  • Winter Operations: Oversee deliveries of anti-skid, deicing materials, and cold patch to county maintenance stockpiles
  • Technical Activities: Assess plants and quarries, train inspection personnel, and support quality assurance reviews
  • Administrative Duties: Supervise staff, approve leave and payroll, evaluate performance, and provide training guidance

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, ad-hoc after successful completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,538 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in construction inspection, including one year in a supervisory capacity; and graduation from high school or equivalent certification of formal training. Completion of a training program in construction inspection sanctioned by the using agency may be substituted for high school graduation. An Associate Degree in an engineering or closely related technology may be substituted for one year of the required non-supervisory experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a Class C non-commercial driver's license.
