Exemption Status:
ExemptAssists the Upward Bound Director in administering and managing program activities. Responsible for the organization and provision of the program’s academic advising component.
JOB DUTIES
Advises high school participants regarding academic performance, career planning and college admissions in the schools and at the university. Develops curriculum for college preparation seminar courses in both academic year and summer components.
Leads academic advising efforts on projects, including the design of curriculum for use within individual academic advising sessions and the administration of academic and career testing.
Recruits, employs, orients and supervises part-time academic tutors.
Develops a program wide recruitment plan. Identifies, screens and recruits participants from target middle and high schools.
Maintains documentation of student services and compiles data for use within program reports.
Develops parent meeting curriculum and facilitates individual parent meetings.
Maintains program awareness through the creation and maintenance of social media accounts.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
EDUCATION
Required:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling or related field from an accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Three years of experience in academic advising, academic counseling or social work with an emphasis on academic development.
Two years of professional experience in the design and implementation of educational case management programs, academic advising programs or academic counseling programs.
Three years of experience in direct service to first-generation and low-income students.
Preferred:
Experience in TRiO programs.
Written and oral fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
Excellent leadership as well as verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred:
An understanding of the philosophy of TRiO programs.
Fluency in Spanish, written and oral.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work leadership of one or more employees.
