The Assistant Director, Sport Programs is responsible for increasing the participation and diversity of Campus Recreation intramural, club sports, and special events programs and participants. Collaborates with Campus Life partners (i.e. Wellbeing, Res Life, Student Engagement, Global Programs & Studies, and Diversity & Inclusion) to promote student engagement and foster physical wellbeing by all members of the campus community through sport programs and special event programs. A vital component of this position is a demonstrated ability to work autonomously with initiative, critical and creative thinking; as well as a strong commitment to collaboration, student development, and customer service.

Essential Functions:

Administration (40%)

  • Supervises the Coordinator, Sport Programs and 2 undergraduate program assistants

  • Manages all aspects of Campus Recreation’s outdoor facilities, fields, and courts including reservations and coordination of maintenance with Facility Turf Management

  • Develops policies, rules, and regulations for intramural sports and club sport programs that promote safety, fiscal responsibility and participation.

  • Manage the Sports Program budget of $100,000 in conjunction with the Senior Associate Director of Programs.

  • In conjunction with the Student Organization Finance Office, assist club sport teams in the developing and managing $250,000 annual operating and equipment budgets, fund raising, and properly expensing travel, equipment, and other expenditures.

  • Creates staffing budget with the use of excel/sheets spreadsheets and provide forecast projections and 5-year staffing plans

  • Creates staffing budget templates for Campus Recreation programming areas to provide a standardized approach.

  • Manage and purchase all Sport Programs equipment.

  • Oversight of the risk management plans for Intramural Sports and Club Sports program. Makes recommendations to the Senior Associate Director of Programs.

Intramurals (40%)

  • Responsible for the hiring, training, evaluation, and development of Intramural Sportsstudent staff.

  • Supervises Intramural Sports staff involved with the execution of the weekday andweekend leagues, tournaments and programs.

  • Creates and initiates league and game scheduling for all intramural sports and specialevents.

  • Responsible for scheduling of intramural sports games,tournaments, and special events.

  • Responsible for marketing and promotion associated with the Intramural Sports program.

  • Responsible for the assessment and reporting of participation numbers, learningoutcomes, and satisfaction for intramural sports and special events

Club Sports (10%)

  • Oversee the advising, mentoring and training of all club sport team officers and captains including, but not limited to, member recruitment, opponent and field scheduling, budget and equipment management, risk management, and travel.

  • Meet monthly with assigned club sport teams officers to review annual budget requests, capital funding requests, and other budget requests throughout the year prior to them being submitted to the Student Budget Advisory Committee (SBAC)

  • Oversee the hiring, training, onboarding, and evaluating club sport team coaches. Coordinate hiring and paying of coaches with Human Resources, Student Organization Finance Office, and club sport teams.

  • Works closely with contracted Athletic Training services from Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health to schedule coverage of events

  • Oversee club sport risk management plans through safety training, event-tracking reports, driver safety courses, and management of Campus Recreation transportation vehicles.

Other Responsibilities (10%)

  • Lead special event programming including, but not limited to, REC pre-orientation program, new student orientation, MLK basketball tournament, and occasional late night programming in conjunction with the Campus Recreation professional staff.

  • Collaborate with Residence Life & Housing on promoting first year student programming on The Forest initiative to promote sense of community and connection.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, staff and the Wake Forest community.

  • Fosters an inclusive environment that is welcoming of all members of the campus community.

  • Other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of at least 3 years full-time professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

  • Knowledge of rules and officiating techniques in major intramural team sports and/or advising club sport teams

  • Experience hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student employees.

  • Effective written and verbal communications skills; Proficiency in computing skills and assessment including the use of IMLeagues.

  • Experience advising club sport teams with budgeting and inventory management
