Job Description

The Associate Director, Residency Program provides strategic, operational, financial, and administrative leadership for a large and highly complex residency training program and associated educational activities. The incumbent oversees accreditation compliance, personnel management, resource allocation, trainee lifecycle management, operational planning, educational administration, and continuous program improvement.

The Associate Director serves as a senior administrative leader and strategic advisor to Program Directors, Department Leadership, and institutional stakeholders. This position is typically assigned to a large and complex residency training program characterized by significant operational complexity, multiple participating training sites, extensive accreditation requirements, broad administrative responsibility, and substantial stakeholder engagement.

• Provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for a large, complex residency training program and associated fellowship training programs as applicable.
• Serves as senior administrative advisor to Program Directors, Department Leadership, and institutional stakeholders regarding graduate medical education operations, accreditation, workforce planning, and organizational strategy.
• Establishes operational priorities, strategic objectives, performance measures, and best practices supporting educational excellence and program effectiveness.
• Oversee trainee lifecycle management activities including recruitment, onboarding, appointment, credentialing, licensure, immigration support, compliance, and graduation processes.
• Provides strategic oversight of recruitment and appointment activities including ERAS, Thalamus, NRMP, and related graduate medical education technologies.
• Establishes standards supporting accreditation activities including Annual Program Evaluation (APE), Program Evaluation Committee (PEC), Clinical
• Competency Committee (CCC), WebADS reporting, Program Letters of Agreement (PLA), accreditation readiness, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensures compliance with ACGME, specialty board, institutional, regulatory, and governmental requirements.
• Oversee educational administration activities including curriculum management, evaluation systems, milestone reporting, scholarly activity tracking, duty hour compliance, and educational quality metrics.
• Provides strategic oversight of Residency Management Systems (RMS), reporting initiatives, analytics, resident complement management, participating site utilization, and workforce planning activities.
• Ensures accuracy of scheduling and reporting data supporting Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) cost reporting, institutional reporting requirements, accreditation compliance, and operational planning.
• Oversee budget development, financial planning, forecasting, resource allocation, and operational investments supporting educational programs and strategic priorities.
• Provided leadership and oversight of managers, coordinators, and administrative personnel and leads workforce planning, succession planning, organizational development, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Represents the department with institutional leadership, Graduate Medical Education leadership, accrediting organizations, specialty boards, and external stakeholders and leads strategic initiatives supporting innovation, continuous improvement, and educational excellence.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred
• Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in graduate medical education administration, healthcare administration, academic administration, or related field
• Demonstrated experience supporting large, complex residency training programs preferred.
• TAGME (Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education) certification preferred
