Iowa State University Residence Life is seeking a qualified Assistant Director of Student Conduct and Care (Assistant Director Student Services) to provide leadership and oversight for residential student conduct and student care processes.
The Department of Residence is one of the largest non-academic departments on campus. Our residence life, facilities, administrative, business, marketing, conference and technology staff work to ensure a supportive learning and social environment where students can thrive as they pursue their Iowa State adventure.
This role manages the full conduct process, including case review, assignment, and adjudication of complex and high-impact cases. The position serves as a primary administrator for the Maxient system, ensures compliance with institutional and federal guidelines, and oversees processes such as conduct appeals and reporting.
The Assistant Director also coordinates care and support for students of concern, partners with campus offices, and provides training to staff on conduct, crisis response, and student support practices. The role participates in the Residence Life leadership duty rotation.
Example of Duties
Manage the full lifecycle of residential conduct cases, including intake, review, and assignment.
Serve as a hearing officer for high-level, sensitive, or complex cases, including those involving safety concerns, bias incidents, repeated violations, or cases with potential for high-impact sanctions.
Ensure conduct processes align with institutional policies, federal guidelines, and best practices in higher education and campus housing.
Maintain accurate and timely case records using the department’s conduct management system.
Analyze conduct trends and provide data-driven insights to inform policy, training, and community development efforts.
Serve as a high-level user for the Department of Residence in the Maxient database system, responsible for annual system review, maintaining user access, and coordinating with campus partners for system updates.
Provide outreach, support, and referrals for students experiencing personal, academic, or mental health challenges.
Serve as a key liaison between the Department of Residence and campus care teams, including relevant behavioral intervention teams, Student Counseling Services, and the Dean of Students Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field
Experience with student conduct systems and behavioral intervention processes
Experience using Maxient or similar case management systems
Strong skills in crisis response, conflict resolution, and student support
Experience training and supporting professional and student staff
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
