Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Director, Sport Clubs

Department: Campus Recreation

Reports to: Director of Campus Recreation

Job Responsibilities:

Sport Clubs Programming

  • Directly oversee all aspects of a comprehensive sport club program, including 51 sport clubs with about 1300 participants

  • Create and enforce administrative policies and procedures for participant membership, eligibility, conduct/discipline, and risk management

  • Enforce safety and conduct regulations for sport clubs, including travel and behavioral compliance. Partner with Rowan Police and the Dean of Students to monitor and report activities in alignment with the Clery Act and University community standards.

  • Coordinate all off-campus logistics including streamlining practice schedules, securing venue rentals/contracts, and processing necessary insurance documentation

  • Develop, revise, and maintain all training manuals, forms, and documents

  • Direct oversight of a third-party athletic training service or other university athletic training staff. This service includes on-campus appointments and supervision at sport club home events

  • Inventory and purchase sport club equipment

  • Process referee, coaches, and athletic trainer payments

  • Assist in the maintenance, inventory, and upkeep of sport club equipment/storage

  • Plan an annual sport club awards event

  • Develop marketing strategies to promote the Sport Club program, including the Annual Sport Club Fair

  • Present at University Open Houses and Orientations for recruitment of our Sport Club programs

Sport Clubs Administrative & Financial Oversight

  • Directly oversee the Graduate Coordinator of Sport Clubs

  • Hire train, mentor, schedule, and evaluate 6-10 Sport Clubs Supervisors as first responders and event management at sport club home events and practices

  • Schedule necessary staff for all sport club home events and practices on and off campus

  • Oversee risk management procedures, including the inspection of facilities/fields, participant roster checks, and sport club equipment

  • Oversee the processing of Sport Club purchases, credit card reconciliation, and all financial transitions as part of the allocation of a $250,00 annual budget.

    • Conduct annual budget hearings with each Sport Club to determine individual club allocations

  • Develop comprehensive Sport Club officer and coach trainings/workshops that focus on university policies/requirements, club leadership, marketing, retention, conflict resolution, and personal wellness

  • Collaborate with Student Organization Services, Community Standards, Student Equity and Compliance, and other campus partners to ensure that training is congruent with other University expectations

  • Advise over 100 student officers on successfully reaching both their organizational and personal career goals

  • Partner with University Advancement to support fundraising campaigns benefiting sport clubs

  • Provide on-site event oversight and emergency on-call support for evening and weekend programming

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Create an environment that promotes and facilitates student learning and development

  • Provide superior customer service to all campus recreation patrons

  • Actively participate in the student development program including new employee orientation, the annual employee training program, and ongoing training sessions and in-services

  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service education sessions, and other divisional or departmental meetings

  • Assist with planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating on-going departmental special events

  • Participate in other Division of Student Life initiatives, programs, and committees as required

  • Assist in the overall operation of the department by providing input and completing assigned projects, annual goals and objectives, and annual reports

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University and one year of professional experience

    • NOTE: Bachelor’s Degree with at least 2 years paraprofessional experience in collegiate recreation can be in lieu of one year of professional experience

Experience: Two (2) years experience working with Sport Club programming

Specific Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to work well within a team environment

  • Experience in developing, implementing and articulating policies and procedures

  • High level coping skills and being able to adapt to changes in the work environment
  • Attention to detail for risk management practices

  • Experience in public speaking and facilitating presentations/trainings

  • Ability to facilitate positive relationships with members, program participants, staff and volunteers.

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:

  • Knowledge and experience with desktop publishing and other computer applications in a PC or MAC environment

  • Knowledge in working with google drive and microsoft office applications

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

Education:

  • Masters Degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Health Promotion, Recreation or related field and 3 years of direct sport clubs experience within a collegiate recreation program

Experience:

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative, positive and effective working relationships with diverse campus populations and multiple constituency groups

  • Have a network with NIRSA for both sport club strategies and best practices
  • Ability to articulate Campus Recreation's role within a University
  • Read, analyze, and interpret documents and contracts, and respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:

  • CPR Instructor Certification

  • Experience working with Anthology Engage, Innosoft Fusion, and SubItUp Staff Scheduling programs

Salary:

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 22, ($67,027.48 to $77,083.88), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.

For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).
