Job Description

About Four Seasons:

Four Seasons is powered by our people. We are a collective of individuals who crave to become better, to push ourselves to new heights and to treat each other as we wish to be treated in return. Our team members around the world create amazing experiences for our guests, residents, and partners through a commitment to luxury with genuine heart. We know that the best way to enable our people to deliver these exceptional guest experiences is through a world-class employee experience and company culture.

At Four Seasons, we believe in recognizing a familiar face, welcoming a new one and treating everyone we meet the way we would want to be treated ourselves. Whether you work with us, stay with us, live with us or discover with us, we believe our purpose is to create impressions that will stay with you for a lifetime. It comes from our belief that life is richer when we truly connect to the people and the world around us.

About the location:

Experience elevated luxury at Maui's most glamorous oceanfront resort. Celebrate the wonders of Maui in our open-air beachfront Resort – and allow our team to pamper you in the spirit of Aloha. Inhale the fragrance of plumeria as you dip into our adults-only infinity pool. Or set out to explore the island; we’ll customize each step of your journey, then welcome you back to unwind in the most spacious accommodations on the island.

About the role

Responsible for leading the strategic direction of Recreation, including the pool deck, beachfront, towel services, cabana and daybed experiences, and water equipment. This role elevates the overall guest experience by driving intuitive, anticipatory and innovative service, fostering team development, and ensuring excellence in safety, financial performance, guest satisfaction, and operational efficiency. The Assistant Director also supports broader Rooms Division priorities and operational needs, contributing to a cohesive and seamless guest experience across the resort, that reflects and upholds the highest standards of luxury hospitality.

What you will do

  • Direct the daily operation and service delivery of the entire Pool & Beach environment — pool deck, beachfront, towel service, cabanas and daybeds, and water/recreation equipment — ensuring every guest touchpoint meets Four Seasons Golden Standards. Lead and develop the Recreation leadership team, including the Director of Recreation, Pool Supervisor, Beach Supervisor and Recreation Attendants; interview, select, train, coach, evaluate and discipline staff as needed.
  • Elevate the guest experience through anticipatory, personalized service — proactively positioning guests, managing cabana and daybed reservations, driving cabana and amenity upsells, recognizing VIPs and return guests, and customizing experiences to exceed expectations in an outgoing yet unobtrusive manner.
  • Own safety standards and compliance across all aquatic and beach areas: enforce pool and spa regulations, beach and ocean-safety protocols, daily equipment and water-quality checks, signage and depth markings, and emergency-response readiness. Respond swiftly and effectively in any emergency, water-rescue or guest-safety situation and ensure the team is trained and certified to do the same.
  • Build and manage staff schedules and complete payroll records in accordance with budgeted guidelines, flexing labor to occupancy, weather and demand. Schedule and conduct departmental meetings and regular, targeted training for all levels, ensuring Learning Coaches fully integrate new employees and prepare them to pass the probationary period.
  • Hold financial accountability for the department: maximize revenue and control expenses, monitor labor and supply costs, drive revenue initiatives (cabana rentals, daybeds, equipment and experiences), and issue recommendations on the annual operating and capital budgets supported by sales and operational reporting
  • Coordinate closely with Food & Beverage to deliver seamless poolside and beachfront dining and beverage service, including the Beach Walk Café, ensuring timing, presentation and standards are met across the deck and sand.

What you bring

  • Progressive leadership experience in luxury resort recreation, pool/beach, or outdoor guest-service operations required, including supervision of front-line teams. Food & beverage service experience strongly preferred given the role’s coordination of poolside and beachfront dining.
  • Strong management, organizational and labor-planning skills; product and experience innovation; people and team leadership; outstanding guest relations; and a high, sustained energy level in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
  • Sound knowledge of pool and beach operations, water sports and recreational activities.
  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Current CPR, First-Aid and AED certification (or obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • Working knowledge of lifeguard and aquatic-safety standards; lifeguard certification an asset.
  • Hawaii Food Handler’s Card
  • Maui Liquor Card
  • ServSafe (within 3 months)
  • Tuberculosis Clearance
