Summary

Assistant Director of Law - Operations and Sustainability

The Law Department's Operations & Sustainability section works with various City of Cleveland departments on municipal law issues relative to, compliance, contracts, legislation, and providing legal opinions on a variety of matters. The section provides representation for the Departments of Public Utilities, Public Works, Health and other departments on an as needed basis. It also represents the Mayor's Office of Sustainability. The ideal applicant will have minimum of four (4) years of transactional work experience in a law firm or with another public sector entity focused on real estate and/or utility work. Required Skills: The applicant must have strong drafting, research and writing skills. The applicant must also possess excellent verbal skills and be able to effectively communicate with the clients, management and the general public. Applicants must have a J.D. and a license to practice in the State of Ohio, as well as be in good standing with the Ohio Supreme Court. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, passion for public service and an ability to work with staff, attorneys at all levels and the departments represented. The applicant must be able to work well as a team member in a fast-paced environment and be able to meet set deadlines.

Examples of duties

The duties may include researching municipal and transactional law issues, preparing legalopinions and memoranda, drafting and reviewing legislation, reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts, MOU's, terms and conditions, and other complex transactional documents, providing legal counsel to various departments regarding contracting, procurement, agreements, and other transactional matters, identifying and addressing legal and contractual risks, advising on compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies, collaborating with departments and other stakeholders to facilitate and complete municipal initiatives, and performing other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Must be an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and in good standing with the Ohio Supreme Court.
