Job Description

The Assistant Director of Athletics assists the Director of Athletics in the leadership and administration of Simpson College's intercollegiate athletics program, with primary responsibility for NCAA and American Rivers Conference compliance and athletics business operations. The position supports student-athlete eligibility and well-being, provides administrative oversight for assigned sports and initiatives, and may serve as the College's Senior Woman Administrator consistent with NCAA guidance and institutional needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Administer, coordinate and continuously improve a comprehensive athletics compliance program consistent with NCAA, American Rivers Conference and Simpson College rules, policies and procedures.

· Maintain the annual compliance calendar and coordinate required forms, certifications, educational programs, monitoring activities and institutional reports.

· Partner with the Registrar, Faculty Athletics Representative, Admissions, Financial Aid and other campus offices regarding student-athlete eligibility, academic requirements, amateurism and related matters.

· Monitor recruiting, eligibility, financial aid, playing and practice seasons, athletics personnel, outside competition and other areas governed by NCAA and conference legislation.

· Provide timely rules education and guidance to coaches, staff and student-athletes; research legislative interpretations and coordinate waivers, self-reports and student-athlete reinstatement matters when necessary.

· Prepare and submit required NCAA, EADA, conference and institutional reports accurately and by established deadlines.

· Assist with athletics business operations, including budget development and monitoring, purchasing, expense reconciliation, financial reporting and coordination with the College's business office.

· Serve as the primary sport administrator for assigned programs and provide support, supervision and guidance to coaches and staff.

· Support student-athlete development, well-being and leadership initiatives, including collaboration with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as assigned.

· Represent the athletics department on College, conference and NCAA committees and at meetings, championships and professional-development events as assigned.

· Serve as the administrator in charge in the absence of the Director of Athletics and assist with departmental decision-making, planning, communication and special projects.

· Represent Simpson College with professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, courtesy and respect in interactions with students, employees, alumni and the public.

· Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

· Relevant experience in collegiate athletics administration, compliance, business operations or a closely related area.

· Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply rules, policies and procedures with accuracy and sound judgment.

· Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.

· Ability to handle confidential information and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

· Proficiency with standard office technology and the ability to learn NCAA, conference and institutional systems.

· Valid driver's license and ability to meet College requirements for operating College vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications

· Master's degree in sports administration, higher education, business or a related field.

· Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate athletics administration or compliance.

· Working knowledge of NCAA legislation and experience in NCAA Division III athletics.

· Experience with compliance-management software, NCAA systems, budget administration and institutional reporting.

· Experience supervising sports, staff, student employees or departmental initiatives.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The position requires regular work in an office environment and at indoor and outdoor athletics events. Evening and weekend work is required, along with occasional travel to meetings, conferences, tournaments, championships and professional-development events. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
