Assistant Directors (ADs) of Admission serve a vital role as undergraduate student recruiters, admissions counselors, project managers, and leaders within the Office of Admissions at Towson University. This AD position oversees a specific area within the TU enrollment portfolio and works primarily with transfer students who attend the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), serving as their recruiter, admissions counselor, and pre-transfer advisor. This position also manages the Degrees to Succeed (D2S) partnership between TU and CCBC, providing services to D2S students especially as well as providing annual reports and assessments on the program’s effectiveness to help shape the partnership strategy.

This position is an official representative of Towson University for CCBC and D2S, which includes scheduling regular visits to CCBC’s four campuses, as well as attending general recruitment events such as college fairs, high school visits, and other activities as needed.

As a member of the Undergraduate Recruitment Team, the selected individual will aid in the successful strategic planning and execution of the office’s collective goals. They will recruit, review, and enroll qualified students to TU while providing exceptional customer service to prospective students and their families, assisting with various marketing activities, and developing relationships with community college partners, community-based organizations, the University System of Maryland, TU alumni, and other external constituents. As an experienced admissions counselor, the AD will also engage with distinct special populations such as honors, military, and international students; students participating in the Transfer Tiger Pact program; and other unique transfer student types.

Responsibilities and Duties

Program Management – Degrees to Succeed:

  • Manage the Degrees to Succeed program, ensuring all D2S students are advised, evaluated, and reviewed for admission in accordance with the program guidelines and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

  • Assist with the implementation of a co-advising model, collaborating with CCBC faculty advisors to guide students on course selection, major exploration, career pathways, academic policies, and degree requirements.

  • Ensure a seamless transition between professional and faculty advising by providing consistent support and resources tailored to students' academic progress and goals.

  • Evaluate the D2S program with data-driven reports and assessments, assisting with shaping partnership strategy and MOU updates as appropriate.

Customer Service, Advisement, & Recruitment:

  • Represent TU at recruitment & advisement events and conduct TU information presentations both on- and off-campus throughout the year.

  • Regularly host counseling and pre-transfer advising sessions both at community colleges and via 1:1 appointments.

  • Counsel prospective, admitted, and enrolled undergraduate students on admission to TU. Represent TU by providing excellent customer service to all students and families via phone, chat, and email, as well as via in-person and virtual meetings. Understand admissions policies and requirements and serve as a resource to ensure success within the Admissions Recruitment Team.

  • Assist with marketing campaigns and personalized outreach campaigns (i.e., phone, email, text, notes, events) Actively participate in open houses and other TU recruitment/yield events.

  • Participate in outreach campaigns, both personalized and developed by Admissions Marketing. Engage with undergraduate students throughout the cycle to encourage application submission, completion, and enrollment next steps.

Application Evaluation:

  • Review undergraduate student applications. Interpret and evaluate college transcripts and other documents for transfer students, and especially CCBC and Degrees to Succeed students to determine transferability and applicability of college courses, prior learning, credit by examination, military and other non-traditional credit bearing experiences.

  • Work in partnership with Admissions colleagues to produce pre-transfer credit evaluations and other resources for prospective and admitted students.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Serve as a resource for TU academic departments, community colleges, and off-campus agencies regarding the transferability of courses to the university. Function as a liaison for TU colleges for relevant matters in transfer admissions, evaluations, and curriculum.

  • Complete general admissions duties including, but not limited to, customer service, applicant processing, holistic review, on-campus events, special projects, campus committees, and any other duties as assigned as needed to meet enrollment and university goals.

The work hours for this position will include evenings and weekends with occasional in – state and out- of state travel.

Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Two years of experience working in undergraduate admissions.

  • Ability to travel independently and on short notice, with a valid driver’s license and ability to pass the TU driver clearance process.

  • The successful candidate will be a collaborator with a strong work ethic who is attentive to cross-cultural communication and actively contributes to office welfare in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, (oral, written, and interpersonal), as well as the ability to present to diverse audiences in various types of venues.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Familiarity with and use of technology are critical to the success of this position and the overall operation of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in undergraduate admissions, specifically with transfer students.

  • Experience using Slate and PeopleSoft systems.

Salary and Benefits

Annual salary is $62,000 with full university benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
