Strategic Communications

The Assistant Director for Enrollment Communications provides strategic leadership and hands-on execution for recruitment- and yield-focused communications that support the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s enrollment goals.
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, this position serves as the primary communications partner for enrollment management, ensuring external messaging aligns with institutional brand standards and is consistently delivered across channels to unique audiences.
In addition to the primary focus of building and executing multichannel external communications, the Assistant Director also develops and manages internal communications that articulate the work, priorities, and outcomes of enrollment management initiatives to campus constituents—building shared understanding, coordinating action, and supporting student-centered service across the university.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in enrollment management, higher education marketing/communications, recruitment marketing, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated success developing and executing multi-channel communications and campaigns.
Experience working with CRMs.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to translate complex information clearly for varied audiences.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders.
Availability for occasional evening/weekend work and limited travel.
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Technolutions Slate, SalesForce, or other CRM-based audience segmentation and campaign workflows.
Higher education experience in admissions/enrollment management communications or marketing.
Experience supporting SEO/SEM, retargeting, and digital advertising strategy.
Experience in social media content creation.
Experience optimizing web content in a CMS.

Key Responsibilities
Enrollment Communications Strategy & Implementation
Design, maintain, and implement a comprehensive enrollment communications plan supporting undergraduate, transfer, concurrent and nontraditional student recruitment goals.
Design and build email and SMS communication flows in the prospective student CMS.
Create social media content aligned with outbound communication timing to promote key admissions, financial aid, and student success initiatives and events.
Maintain and optimize enrollment-related web content.
Advise university and agency partners on recruitment-focused digital ads, content, and print materials to improve inquiry generation and yield.
Ensure all enrollment messaging is accurate, student-centered, and aligned with the university’s brand, values, and strategic priorities.
Regularly evaluate performance and recommend improvements based on analytics, student feedback, market trends, and benchmarking.
Collaboration
Serve as the primary Communications liaison for all Enrollment Management communications needs.
Collaborate closely with the Student Success and Retention Office, the Academic Affairs Office, and the academic colleges to ensure prospective student messaging features strategic insights into campus resources and academic offerings, and that communications are up to date.
Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing offices to ensure recruitment and financial aid timelines and needs are promoted across channels, including in news releases, in advertisements, and in additional digital content.
Create and manage a series of internal communications that bring Enrollment Management initiatives, timelines, and outcomes to campus constituents, and that improve campus-wide coordination around recruitment and enrollment cycles (e.g., key dates, campus events and visit offerings, financial aid processes, yield efforts, etc.)
Vendor and Partner Management
Oversee third-party platforms used for student and parent communications as assigned.
Data, Reporting, and Optimization
Monitor engagement metrics ranging from open rates to enrollment funnel progression across communications channels;
Use insights to optimize content, timing, audiences, and platform mix.
Track and report campaign outcomes and key recruitment communication metrics.
Additional Information:
Salary Information:
$50,000 - $60,000 commensurate with education and experience.
