Job Posting Description

Full-time position providing clinical patient care, supervising trainees, and managing clinical services within the Augmentative Communication Programs, including outpatient Augmentative Communication, Inpatient Augmentative Communication, Autism Language, and Jay S. Fishman ALS Augmentative Communication Programs. Providing direction and assistance to staff in both clinical and supervisory areas. Focus on tech innovation partnerships, clinical innovation, and development opportunities Propose, design, and participate in research activities in collaboration with the program research coordinator.Develops and/or implements department quality improvement programs, policy and procedure manuals, attendant clinical practice guidelines and all other educational programs, under the guidance of the Director. Recommends operational and capital budgets.

General Summary
1. Manages daily operations of department and provides guidance to supervisory staff regarding scheduling, assignments, overtime use and resolution of technical or administrative problems.
2. Provides direction and assistance to subordinate staff, while maintaining goals and objectives of continuous quality improvement programs.
3. Provides guidance, instruction, and mentoring to subordinates involved in departmental or professional activities such as continuing education, quality improvement, and development of policies, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines.
4. Supervises trainees, or shares responsibilities for such supervision with designated senior staff as appropriate to the traineeship.
5. Evaluates and treats patients in the area of clinical expertise.
6. Identifies and arranges clinical and continuing educational opportunities which align with the clinical goals of the department. Proposes, designs, and participates in research activities in cooperation with the department director of clinical research.
7. Communicates program information to physicians and other professionals regarding clinical care and services.
8. Participates in various hospital-wide committees and implements programs of hospital-wide nature.
9. Oversees maintenance of department policy and procedure manuals, safety and infection control plans, education and quality improvement programs in accordance with Joint Commission and department standards.
10. Maintains patient care productivity level for position

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • A Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology

Experience:

  • Ten years of directly related clinical experience in hospital-based outpatient Augmentative and Alternative Communication is required.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA)
  • A current Massachusetts state license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist
  • Ability to work collaboratively with inter-professional teams in a fast-paced medical environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Commitment to professional education.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
