Job Description

The Assistant Director, Athletics Marketing & Fan Engagement assists in planning, coordinating, and executing marketing and promotional initiatives that enhance fan engagement, increase attendance, and support the overall brand and revenue goals of the athletics department. This position manages game-day entertainment elements, student engagement programs, grassroots marketing efforts, and social media content for assigned sports.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates and executes marketing and promotional plans for assigned sports to increase attendance, fan engagement, and overall visibility.
  • Manages the athletics mascot program, including scheduling appearances, coordinating events, and overseeing student mascot performers.
  • Coordinates and books national anthem performers, halftime acts, and other game-day entertainment, serving as the primary contact for participating groups and individuals.
  • Oversees and promotes the Dirty Birds student booster group through engagement initiatives, events, communications, and attendance-building efforts.
  • Organizes and supervises the athletics street team, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and implementation of grassroots marketing activities.
  • Serves as the secondary contact for student engagement partnerships and collaborates with campus departments and student organizations to promote athletics programs and events.
  • Creates and manages social media content including photography, video, graphics, and written content to support marketing objectives and fan engagement.
  • Assists with game-day marketing operations, promotions, and fan experience initiatives for home athletic events.
  • Monitors and assesses the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and promotional activities and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support athletics marketing, promotions, and fan engagement efforts.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional experience in a higher education athletics department related to the position.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures consistently.
  • Ability and willingness to assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations when numerous and competing demands are involved.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with both internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
