Location: The University is located in historic Kingsville, a friendly, safe city of 25,000 that is the home of the legendary King Ranch. Corpus Christi and its beaches are just 40 miles to the northeast, and the border with Mexico is 120 miles to the south at Brownsville or 119 miles to the west at Laredo.

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications reports to the Director of Athletic Communications and assists in publicity efforts for all sponsored sports, including writing press releases and feature stories; Produces and edits game programs, game notes, and media guides; Assists with maintenance of the Athletic department’s website.
Administrative Support
Assists the Director of Athletic Communications and the athletics’ department with day-to-day operations
Trains and supervises graduate students, student workers and game-day staff
Attends weekly meetings with staff and administration
Compliance and Policy Implementation
Consistent compliance with NCAA DII, LSC, TAMUK, and TAMUS policies, rules, and regulations
Attend trainings as needed to ensure compliance with TAMUK and TAMUS policies
Special Projects and Reporting
Assists in publicity efforts for all sponsored sports, including writing press releases and feature stories; producing and editing game programs, game notes and media guides; helping maintain historical records; distributes athletic information to all media outlets; and assists in the relations with local, regional and national media
Assists in the maintenance of the official website
Assists the game day operations, including media relations, game management and statistical services
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
Create or assist in the creation of promotional items for events and/or games that the athletics department promotes
Inform and/or release information to local, regional and national media regarding athletic news and/or updates
Collaborate with campus departments as needed in the promotion and execution of Athletic Events

Education – Bachelor’s degree in sports journalism, sports administration, public relations, or related field.
Experience – Three (3) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications - Master’s degree
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat
Ability to move up to 20 lbs with assistance
Ability to move light, medium or heavy objects with assistance.
Some lifting/carrying of presentation materials (i.e. ability to lift, carry, load or unload up to 10 lbs. of instructional materials)
Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.
Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong time management skills
Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to handle multiple projects at once
Ability to adapt to different duties during work hours
Ability to write about multiple different sports and topics for the web
Knowledge of AP style guides for writing for the web
Knowledge of NCAA Livestats and other official statistical software
Knowledge of Adobe suite products for creative design

A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee.
