
Responsible for Directing, planning, and managing the Augusta Engineering traffic engineering projects, operations and services including TMC & ITS within the guidelines of City and departmental policies and procedures, state and federal laws, and acceptable professional engineering practices. This position works closely with other assistant directors & managers within Engineering Department, Georgia DOT personnel, design consultants, developers, surveyors, citizens, other city departments, and elected officials.
Qualifications
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education BA/BS in Civil Engineering
Experience Seven (7) or more years of responsible leadership experience in traffic engineering, managing projects, collecting and analyzing data as it relates to traffic engineering, traffic safety, and maintenance of infrastructures.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of organization, personnel management, and administration as related to municipal administration.
• Familiarity with engineering designs, current developments in the field of traffic engineering, funding, procedures and grant management and the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Proficiency in principles of planning budgeting purchasing.
• Experience in applying innovative and modern traffic engineering solutions such as road diets, roundabouts, adaptive signal systems or other unconventional roadway and intersection treatments.
• Experience with road construction and maintenance techniques, approved safety standards, legal requirements for roads, and interpreting ordinances and regulations related to public infrastructure.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and their use to improve safety and traffic flow in a municipality.
Licensing
• Possess a Professional Engineer License (PE), PTOE is preferred. Possess a Professional Engineer License (PE} in the State of Georgia or able to obtain one in six months' time.
• Possess or have ability to obtain a valid state operator/driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
