The Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) will oversee the delivery, campus-specific development, and continuous quality improvement of the undergraduate medical education portfolio for the UMass Chan – Lahey Regional Medical School based at Lahey Hospital Medical Center in Burlington, MA. The Assistant Dean UME role also includes maintaining an active clinical practice at Lahey Hospital Medical Center.
The UMass Chan- Lahey regional campus is an innovative new regional campus, with a mission to develop the next generation of purpose-driven physician leaders in an inclusive, inter-professional environment. The Assistant Dean UME will serve as a member of the regional and cross-campus leadership teams and report directly to the Executive Dean of the regional campus. The Assistant Dean UME will be the key leader in providing oversight of the UME academic, and operational processes, ensuring optimal student outcomes, alignment and comparability with the T.H. Chan School of Medicine Vista curriculum at the main campus. They will oversee the adherence to LCME curricular standards including delivery, quality improvement, assessments, and evaluation of the UME curriculum, including our LEAD@Lahey leadership curriculum, and all clinical learning components of the competency-based Vista curriculum of UMass Chan across all four years of curriculum.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities(including but not limited to):
Oversees thecampus-specific component ofdevelopment,implementationand assessmentof the curriculum of the UMass Chan Lahey regional medicalschool campus,including Early Clinical Learning,LEAD@LaheyPathway,Clinical Clerkshipsandrotations,Intersession courses,and Transition to Residency
Provides guidance,direction, and mentoringon all curricular components for theCurricular and CourseDirectors of Early Clinical Learning, Explorations, Horizons, and the Leadership Pathway
Workscollaboratively withthe Offices of Student Affairs, Interprofessional Education, Leadership andFaculty Development,andtheCenter for Simulationat the LaheyCampus toachieve seamless integration of the Lahey Leadership Track curriculum into the UMassChan foundationaland clinical curriculum.
Overseesall regional campuscurriculum committees and curriculum stakeholders to ensure that programs, resources, and services are prioritized and tailored appropriately to meet both the needs of learners and the educational mission.
Works withUMassmain and PURCH campus leadership toIdentify and define critical learningobjectivesand outcomes in collaboration with key faculty and leadership in the clinical years, align curriculum and assessment todemonstratethese.
Works closelywithUMass Chan and Laheyinstitutional offices to review trends in curriculum evaluation(educational outcomes and student feedback), highlight opportunities to improve performance and implement related change.
Serve asa liaisonwith UMass Chan andBILH educational partners, as well as other institutional departments in support of core responsibilities.
Oversee outreach and community-based educationprogramsat diverseclinicalsites in conjunction with lead faculty,participatingin faculty development and programmatic assessment.
Manage curriculum calendar development with faculty,administratorsand staff, including periodic adjustments including related technology.
Collaborate with the Director of Simulation Center and education leaders to support the development and implementation of multiple methods for curriculum deliveryand student assessmentin order toenhanceinnovative anddiverse curriculum delivery and student learning.
Contribute to national efforts in improving medical education and educational innovation.
Participate in ongoing and periodic accreditation efforts including LCME and NECHE.
Direct supervision ofappropriate professionalstaff overseeing supported programs includingtheOffice of Education Affairs
Functional supervision of support staff, who help coordinate curriculum committee meetings and processes, program planning andlogistics, update websites,courseand curriculum committee administrator meetings and manage daily administrative needs.
Recruit and prepare faculty or other professionals toparticipateas leaders.
Participate in decisions related toregional campusoffice structure, budget,staffing,and supervision.
Useappropriate technologyin support of all functionsincluding working knowledge of Microsoft teams, PeopleSoft,Oasis,and Canvas

Course Directors– all UME course directors functionally report to the AssistantDean of UME and work collaboratively to ensure physicians and other professionals have teaching skills and development to deliver innovative curriculum to learners in a variety of formats.
Director Student Affairs and Head of House– Works collaboratively to ensure alignment of education programs, outcomesand student life
Executive Director Administration and Finance- Works collaboratively to oversee Office of Education budgets, personnel, performance improvement of operations to ensure high quality UME development and curriculum delivery.
Assistant Dean of Leadership & Faculty Development-Works collaboratively to ensure faculty have development, mentoring, and career advancement in medical education
Director of Interprofessional Education-Works collaboratively toidentifyopportunities and ensure interprofessional education programs are enhanced and implemented
Vice Provost, Associate and Assistant Deans of Educationat UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester- Partners with all education deans at main campus to ensure effective delivery of curriculum, assessments, and alignment with LCME standards
Division/Department Chair Service Line-For physician practice and clinical duties, reports to service line division and department chair.
Office of Education Staff-Provides oversight, education and leadership to staff which produce the best possible student outcomes.
Experience:
-A minimum of 4 years of relevant leadership experience in an LCME accredited medicalschool inundergraduate medical education and program development including curriculum design, delivery, and assessments or equivalent experience in a COCA accredited college of osteopathic medicine.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for diverse stakeholders isa must
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
MD or DO degree, plus aMaster'sdegree in Educationor comparable education degreestrongly preferred
>4years of related experience in undergraduate medical education and/or curriculum development, assessments.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Board certification in one or more specialties in medicine.
Eligible for/or current License to practice medicine in Massachusetts.

Pay Range:
$350,000.00 USD - $410,000.00 USD
The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation may be determined based on several factors, that may include education, training, relevant experience, specialty, geography of work location, productivity, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include productivity and quality bonuses.
