Job Description

M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Located in Hong Kong’s WestK, we are one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. The museum reflects our unique time and place, building on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and the international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.

You will be responsible for:

  • supporting the curatorial team in all events and activities related to museum business and curatorial affairs with a focus on design and architecture;
  • assisting in maintaining records of objects in museum collection, supporting and making acquisitions for the museum collection;
  • independently researching given topics related to design and architecture and communicating findings to the curatorial team;
  • assisting in writing, editing, and producing museum texts, including publications, exhibition labels, and online contents;
  • working with all the curatorial areas including visual art, moving image, the learning and the digital team in the above capacities when required;
  • contributing to the general development of the M+, including the different stages of the project and programme development and working groups with various members across the museum; and
  • performing any other duties from time to time as reasonably assigned by the M+.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree in Design, Architecture, Art History or equivalent;
  • have 4-6 years of experience in coordinating, planning and/or implementing exhibitions and other public programmes;
  • be a self-starter who is willing to learn and highly organised and detail-oriented;
  • demonstrate strong research skills and experience and ability to conduct research independently;
  • have knowledge of 20th and 21st century design and architecture, in particular from Asia;
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese, proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage; and
  • candidate with less experience may be considered for the post of Curatorial Assistant.

About West Kowloon Cultural District Authority

Stretching across 40 hectares of reclaimed land, WestK is one of the largest cultural projects in the world, blending art, education and open space.

Its vision is to create a vibrant cultural quarter for Hong Kong where the local arts scene can interact, develop and collaborate. Providing 23 hectares of public open space with two kilometres of vibrant harbour-front promenade it will also include a variety of arts and cultural facilities that will produce and host world-class exhibitions, performances and arts and cultural events.

A Development Plan for the District, based on well-received Foster + Partner’s Conceptual Plan, was approved by the Chief Executive-in-Council in January 2013. Overlooking the magnificent Victoria Harbour, the District will begin to take shape over the next decade.

By developing this sizable project in phases we can start to bring the district to life. The Xiqu Centre, Freespace, Art Park, M+, Hong Kong Palace Museum and Lyric Theatre Complex, will be developed as a first batch of facilities aiming for opening to the public.
